🤖 Technologists: Healthcare is broken. We will fix everything by building AI that will replace doctors and nurses.
👩⚕️ Healthcare providers: How can I trust technologists who think AI is the panacea for all our problems? I don't want healthcare to be “disrupted” - I just want help to improve clinical care in a way that is safe and effective for my patients.
🧑🚀 Providers turned technologists: We can’t technology our way out of our problems. Clinical care is complex and nuanced. We have to get incentives right, tackle clinical workflows properly and involve the right clinical expertise to build technology that is actually adopted and actually improves health outcomes.
@elkhouri@chrissyfarr Agreed. Ideally this would be a smart primary care / internist but in the US that’s often not feasible. Having a (specialist somewhat related to the issue), play “quarterback” would be ideal. I do this for my close family members because I can really pour over the details.

As part of the @avocadodoc hackathon, we built an AI tool helping clinicians to produce infinitely customizable communication and educational materials for patients being discharged from the hospital. Try it out and like us on LinkedIn 🙏🏻
@chrissyfarr I personally like my FSA, but I pay attention to it and make sure to use my $. My other take is that there are ways you can spend it with some help from your doctor (eg getting a more), like paying for your gym membership or something like acupuncture.
@DivaBiotech Before Covid, digital health wasn’t really a thing, then it became all the rage. Now we are in the correction period where solutions, offerings and interventions that lack evidence and/or impact, will wither away. Sort of reminds me of the banking industry post 2008 recession.
@chrissyfarr We can multitask under pressure, think on our feet, deal with personalities ranging from arrogant surgeons to despondent patients and everything in between. The healthcare system washes over us. Everything is easy by comparison.
@jareddashevsky Would be cool if you customize it to show you what you’re most interested in. For example, gen surgery you see drain outputs and medicine it can show you long the antibiotics have been running. This is definitely coming.
My grandma can barely use an iPad. Maybe it'll be different for upcoming tech savvy generations?

@healthcareandy I’d have to get more information about how they want to execute this. I’m definitely learning a hard NO, but I could be persuaded if they build this out in the right way. By combining with food shopping for example.
Emergency visits are expensive🚑
We find huge variation in costs by diagnosis, metro area, severity - with many exceeding the threshold that consumers can afford.

@DivaBiotech Understanding the customer is an essential part of any business right? Since healthcare is a business in the US, and patients are the customer, who else knows them better the people who spend day after day with them? Non clinics C-suite types put too much emphasis on P&L reports

Hot tip for hospital CEOs: You are competing with the entire country (+now Amazon) for nurses. Your med center needs to be the BEST place to work.
BEST doesn't just mean 💰. Maybe it's child care. Or education credits. Or a coffee cart. Or healthcare. And a happy workplace.
The year is 2050.
Amazon wins the government's bid to take over healthcare alongside United.
I have just enough points on my Prime Rewards Visa to schedule a 5-minute virtual chatbot session.
The chatbot denies my claim. It says that my Halo readings are within normal bounds.
