Atiku doesn’t make flippant statements. He doesn’t speak carelessly. If he tells you he’ll return a well structured subsidy, best believe he has thought it through, discussed it, not just with his political aides and support base but with experts in that sector. Same thing he said about the refinery is playing out today. So rather than attack his plan, find time to sit and truly study it.

I am 100% for the restoration of fuel subsidy. We are an oil producing nation and should get some benefit from that.

Still On The Atiku Alternative Subsidy Plan

Someone said to me: "I can't believe in (big) 2026, we are talking of returning subsidies."

I Responded To Him Thus:

"You better believe it and know who to blame for that. Definitely not Atiku Abubakar.

Try his for size.

According to the Minister of Finance, Nigeria saved N15.8T in 31 months from fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification, but it spent N30.6T to cushion the hardship created by those policies, including wage award, minimum wage adjustments, debt service adjustments caused by the exchange rate depreciation, and higher interest rates paid on government securities to stabilize exchange rates.

If it is correct, as it sadly is, that we incurred over 50% cost (N30.6T) to save (or defend the cost of a policy that cost us) N15.8T, and we are still where we are today - exchange rate hovering around N1,300/400 to the $, inflation (rebased) around 15%, petrol averaging N1,300 per litre and minimum wage of 70k not waging, with no hope in sight for reducing the spending on those interventions and more Nigerians dying daily, wouldn't you equally rather ask the common sense question - are we better off with fuel subsidy or without it?

It's either the policies (fuel subsidy removal + Naira floatatio/unification) were dead wrong, the policy implementation very defective and or the policy implementers/managers are grossly incompetent. Neither of those give any comfort or confidence.

Something definitely MUST change. No sentiments."

Addendum: People should realise that Nigerians are wiser and smarter, no thanks to the incompetence and recklessness of the current administration and the arrogant, insensitive and callous treatment they have received from President Tinubu and his coterie of appointees, aides and supporters in the last 3½ years.

Barely 5 months to the election, they are clearly still living in their arrogance and reality denial forgetting that they are dealing with human beings and not robots. We shall see how it all plays out.

@Kingprince006 It is deeply concerning how reluctant our society is to ask questions or debate policy issues before taking a side. I am curious to see how this approach will play out in both the short and long term. That said, I am still waiting to see the actual proposal.

@Officially_Kriz My problem with us all is 90% of people defending and opposing this is that we haven't gone through the proposal from Atiku before taking side. Emotions and gullibility has taken most part of us. Take your time lay your hands on it before saying your rubbish. Ire oo #Atiku2027
