Today's Canada ๐จ๐ฆ vs. Bosnia-Herzegovina ๐ง๐ฆ match was a hard-fought and emotional game that ended in a 1โ1 draw.
Going into the match, I thought Bosnia-Herzegovina had the better chance of winning. But from the opening whistle to the final minutes, I was pleasantly surprised by how well Canada played, especially offensively.
Bosnia-Herzegovina started the stronger side and took the lead in the 21st minute when Jovo Lukiฤ scored from a corner kick. They then focused on defending and slowing the pace of the game. Their goalkeeper, Nikola Vasilj, made several important saves and was one of Bosnia-Herzegovina's standout players.
In the second half, Canada turned up the pressure and kept pushing forward. Their persistence paid off in the 78th minute when Cyle Larin came off the bench and scored the equalizer, changing the momentum of the match. Both teams had chances after that, but neither could find the winning goal.
Overall, it was a balanced game. Bosnia and Herzegovina was more efficient in the early stages and defended well, while Canada showed greater energy and control as the game progressed. A draw was a fair result, and Canada earned its first World Cup point in the process.
Looking ahead, Canada's ๐จ๐ฆ next two matches are against Qatar ๐ถ๐ฆ on June 18 and Switzerland ๐จ๐ญ on June 24. They will be tough tests, but after this performance, Canada has every reason to believe it can compete with both teams.

I just watched White Bird and was left feeling numb.
Coming just days after the 82nd anniversary of D-Day on June 6, 1944 - when Allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy, France ๐ซ๐ท in a historic operation that launched a year-long campaign to liberate Western Europe from Nazi occupation - the film serves as a powerful reminder of the millions who suffered under Nazi persecution. Among them were Jewish communities, people with disabilities, and countless others who were targeted, dehumanized, and killed because of hatred and prejudice.
At its heart is the story of a French-Jewish grandmother, played by Helen Mirren, who shares with her grandson her experiences growing up in Nazi-occupied France, where a brave classmate and his family risked everything to hide her from persecution. Alongside Mirren, the film features strong performances from Ariella Glaser, Bryce Gheisar, and Gillian Anderson.
The story highlights both the cruelty that people can inflict on one another and the extraordinary courage of those who choose kindness, compassion, and humanity in the darkest of times.
Although the story is set in the past, its themes remain relevant today, as discrimination, intolerance, and injustice continue to affect people around the world.
White Bird is a moving reminder of why remembering history matters - not only to honour the victims and survivors of the past, but also to encourage empathy, understanding, and the courage to stand up for others in our own time.

Bosnia-Herzegovinaโs ๐ง๐ฆ surprise triumph over four-times world champions Italy ๐ฎ๐น, to clinch a spot in the 2026 World Cup ignited celebrations across the capital Sarajevoโs streets, delivering a rare burst of joy amid ongoing political turmoil - a topic I've covered in the past. Although qualifying for the World Cup marks a significant achievement, the celebratory mood across Bosnia-Herzegovina last night also reveals how deeply people long for progress beyond the everyday political struggles that have weighed on the country for years. Amid an unseasonably cold spring, rising living costs, and ongoing political gridlock, many welcomed the chance to pause and celebrate something positive.
Last night, Bosnians flooded the streets and made their way to the Vjeฤna vatra ("Eternal Flame") in the heart of the capital to celebrate. The Eternal Flame is a memorial dedicated to the military and civilian victims of World War II in Sarajevo. Sarajevo's architecture has Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, Yugoslav, and modern Bosnian influences, reflecting the city's complex identity. The memorial stands in the downtown area at the junction where these influences converge - specifically at the meeting point of Mula Mustafa Baลกeskija, Marลกala Tita (Marshal Tito), and Ferhadija streets.
Marshal Tito Street (often called โUlica Marลกala Titaโ) is one of the most common and historically significant street names across the former Yugoslavia, of which Bosnia-Herzegovina was a founding republic. The name refers to Josip Broz Tito (1892-1980), the longtime leader of Yugoslavia from World War II until his death in 1980. He was a central figure in leading the resistance against the German occupation during World War II. Tito represented the idea of a unified Yugoslav state made up of multiple ethnic groups. He is credited with promoting peaceful coexistence both within Yugoslavia and across the world. Yugoslavia disintegrated in the 1990s, following four bloody wars.
Today, โMarshal Tito Streetโ carries different meanings depending on the country in region. In places like Bosnia-Herzegovina ๐ง๐ฆ and North Macedonia ๐ฒ๐ฐ, the name often remains and can symbolize nostalgia or respect for stability during Titoโs era. In Croatia ๐ญ๐ท and Serbia ๐ท๐ธ, some streets have been renamed due to changing political views.
Simply put, โMarshal Tito Streetโ isnโt just a location. It reflects the legacy of a leader who shaped an entire region, and ongoing debates about history, identity, and politics in the Balkans.

Peruโs ๐ต๐ช 2026 presidential election ๐ท, held on June 7, 2026, has become one of the closest and most polarized races in recent history. As vote counting continues, the country is once again facing a familiar question: which direction will Peru take after three and a half decades of political instability, mistrust, and economic uncertainty?
At the centre of the race are two very different candidates, each offering a competing vision for the country:
๐ฅ Keiko Fujimori - a right-leaning, law-and-order conservative
โฌ๏ธRoberto Sรกnchez - a left-leaning, reformist populist
Keiko Fujimori is one of the most well-known - and divisive - figures in Peruvian politics. Her political identity is closely linked to her father, former president Alberto Fujimori. His 1990s government is remembered for stabilizing the economy and taking a hard line against two leftist guerrilla insurgencies, but also for serious human rights abuses, corruption allegations, and controversial policies that affected Indigenous, rural, and low-income communities, including forced sterilizations.
Fujimori has long defended parts of this legacy and built her platform around security, order, and economic stability.
On the other side is Roberto Sรกnchez, a left-wing congressman and former minister who has gained prominence more recently. He has been campaigning on expanding the role of the state in the economy, strengthening anti-corruption measures, widening social programmes, and pushing for political change after years of instability.
He is also linked to the broader left-wing movement that gained momentum after the short presidency of Pedro Castillo (2021โ2022). His support base is largely made up of voters who want a clear break from traditional political elites.
Early results show just how tight the race remains, with neither candidate securing a decisive lead as counting continues and legal challenges are expected.
The divide in this election is not only ideological - it is also social and geographic. Voters in urban coastal areas - including in capital Lima - tend to lean right, while rural and highland regions are more likely to support the left. These patterns reflect long-standing inequality in Peruvian society.

"Which way, Peru?โ is therefore more than a question about two individuals. It reflects a broader uncertainty about whether the country can stabilize after years of crisis - or whether it will continue shifting between opposing political extremes.

Voters in Los Angeles ๐บ๐ธ cast their ballots eight days ago, deciding on whether incumbent Mayor Karen Bass - a progressive Democrat - should remain in office. Under the cityโs election rules, a candidate who receives more than 50% of the vote wins outright. If no one reaches that threshold, the top candidates move on to a runoff election in November.
The race has drawn national attention as the gap between the leading candidates has shifted while more ballots continue to be counted.
It has also made headlines because the counting process is taking longer than many people are used to. Californiaโs election system prioritizes making sure every eligible vote is counted, rather than producing a final result on election night.
Election officials and multiple news organizations say the slow count is due to Californiaโs ballot-processing rules, not evidence of fraud. There is no evidence - as implied by President Donald Trump - that the delay itself indicates wrongdoing.

Good try, but he's running for the wrong party. Campaigning on people's anxieties by turning immigrants and other vulnerable groups into scapegoats for the complex challenges facing our society is not a Liberal approach. Ontario needs thoughtful policies on immigration and justice reform that address real issues without resorting to fear or division.
The next Ontario Liberal Party leader will be officially announced on November 21, 2026. Members will cast their ranked-ballot votes online between November 9 and November 20 to select a permanent replacement for former leader Bonnie Crombie, with MPP John Fraser currently serving as interim leader.
