Only just heard the shockingly sad news about the wonderful Georgina Mace. I'd interacted with Georgina on and off for years. She was amazing.
@UCLCBER is a credit to her. I'm floored. Georgina I'm going to miss you terribly. Thanks for everything.
Today I saw @drewpurves inspire an audience of GCSE students with his path from research to Microsoft to Google DeepMind and how he has been paid well to work flexibly on exciting projects with cool colleagues from diverse backgrounds and he gets free breakfast.
FREE BREAKFAST.
@jonmsutton Thanks so much Jon! If talking about the fortunate career journey I've had, helped to encourage more young people, especially from underrepresented groups, into STEM careers ... then all good!
Thrilled to be able to share what I've been working on for the last year - solving the fundamental equations of quantum mechanics with deep learning!

@markus_eichhorn@HannahJackson__ It sounds like it's your body's way of making sure you continue to give awesome talks! Whenever I have given a bad talk, because I wasn't nervous enough.
@emble64@BrentToderian Easy! A 'Roost' which balances on my lap and holds my laptop at near eye height, enabling me to work comfortably on my long train commute. Genuinely transformative for me!
So great to see this @TaniaBarychka ! Well done on working out how to use such a complex simulation model to shed light on this important real world issue.
One of the most pathetic—and dangerous—signs of our times is the growing number of individuals and groups who believe that no one can possibly disagree with them for any honest reason.
Great to see 1000 new AI conversion degree scholarships for people from underrepresented groups - a good step on the vital mission of ensuring AI opportunities for everyone. Proud of our work with Cambridge, Oxford & UCL offering scholarships in support of this. Lots more to do!
I am so humbled to have been awarded a CBE, something I never would have imagined when I was growing up in Rotorua. This is a testament to the thoughtful, pioneering team at @DeepMindAI — the scientific breakthroughs we’ve already achieved together, and those still to come!
@ElenaBennett We'll music is personal of course (!) but Peter Gabriel's Secret World Tour live album, and Kate Bush's Aerial, are both long, and both benefit from repeated close listening!
New publication! Madingley (https://t.co/by0PGqcTRg) food webs reproduce empirical networks and provide insights about the effects of species aggregation and sampling on observed structure. https://t.co/cl7SGHPSvo. Nice work @cesar7f @SusanneKortsch@DrewPurves and Dr Tittensor!
I know that many of these suggestions must seem blindingly obvious and I hope not to have come across as condescending (particularly as I failed to implement many of these practices when I was an academic). Hopefully at least some will prove useful!
Tech Twitter: Tell me about a time someone underestimated or dismissed you and what amazing things you’ve gone on to do since then?
RT for reach if y’all want a bunch of victory stories 😌💖
Or global machine learning community is stronger because of these efforts🤩. Please encourage everyone you know in South East Asia to apply. The organisers have put in an incredible amount of work into this and will be a formative week of growth, community and fun! 🌏🇮🇩🎉
