@synaen@AlexGodofsky A lot of that charitable giving is just ego-stroking. A building in a univ named after the giver. A hospital wing that competes with for-profit hospitals, and charges just as much.
@synaen@AlexGodofsky Not True. A huge share of wealth that could be gifted or left to heirs is not - it is given to unproductive not-for-profit organizations or family run “charities” to avoid estate tax. So, no revenue, and no inheritance. It’s a terrible tax.
@EricLDaugh Not allowed to say that on the house floor. It’s true, but he’s not allowed to say it. Under House rules, truth is not a defense. What he should have said: “I’m sorry I told the truth. My bad.”
Alex Stepnowsky flew a swastica flag at NYU event. I can see that NYU could punish him administratively, but he was also charged with a crime. I don’t see how that could be a crime. Offensive, yes, crime, no. What am I missing?
@AdeleScalia LOL my son carved it on the beautiful dining room table. Now he’s a fantastic son and I could not be more proud. You just have to laugh it off.
Platner says 1/3 of Collins money comes from Jews so she is “bought and paid for” by Netanyahu. American Jews. I don’t think Platner is bought and paid for by terrorists. He is on their side out of genuinely held beliefs. No payment needed.
@sgodofsk More to the point, the Jewish hostages in Gaza were treated much worse than the pigs, and Kristoff had no problem with treating people that way (Jewish people, that is). So, I don’t care what he thinks about the treatment of pigs.
Guy on X says it can’t be that 47% of Americans have less than $1,000 in savings because median household net worth is $193,000. Um. Median is 50th percentile, not 47; a household could include 4 people with no savings and one with $193k; and net worth is not savings.
@AlanMCole@GreenPlusAnE What do you call someone who takes $6,000 from a single mother raising 3 children on a $40,000 a year salary, and gives it to a guy who has $7 million in the bank and an income of $100,000? Commissioner of Social Security Administration. (Real example.)
@AlanMCole@GreenPlusAnE Boomers who simultaneously collect social security/Medicare, AND help out their children (who pay for the social security/Medicare), may not be net givers, even to their own children.
