"Hello, is that Yaya Toure? I've got a player you might be interested in, he's currently playing in the Doncaster Sunday League, but I think he might do well in the Champions League in a couple of years' time.."

At a couple of high-scorers today... A ruthless 8-0 away victory for Brigg Town at Kinsley in the NCEL, and before that a closer contest but another West End Terriers 2nd-half comeback, this time in the County Senior League as Hemsworth beat Rotherham Town 7-5.

1974 Health & Safety - "Aye just wear a parka, some flared jeans and a pair of winklepickers, John, for when you're climbing up the 80 foot gantry.".. "What, like a snorkel parka, so I can't see out of either side of it?".. "Yep, that'll be grand."

BBC Blue Peter
Back in March 1974, John Noakes climbed 80 feet up one of the floodlights at QPR’s Loftus Road, to change a light bulb (a big light bulb) in the days before Health & Safety…and in a pair of flairs.
The man was fearless!

The bracing Brotherton backdrop during yesterday's Wakefield League Division One game between Byram Park and Flatt Top FC.. ending in a fairly comfortable 4-0 victory to the homesters who maintained their 100% record. (#1)

@graham93818849 @_benoliver7 Taxman is only interested in gate receipts. A lot of clubs make up attendance figures to attract sponsors, others let junior players & parents in free, etc, so it's rarely just paid attendees counted anyway.

[The Dribbling Code @dribblingcode]

@Yorkshire_Tales @SoundsClips Hidden Charms were slightly ahead of Accent (single from 1983) / formed out of mod band The Scooters.

[The Dribbling Code @dribblingcode]

@Yorkshire_Tales @SoundsClips It was an occasional club night at the Kings Head in Fulham, think it may have been Accent themselves that set it up. Attracted a mixed crowd, not just casuals. From my memory, Simple Minds were probably the most popular band in that period among Leeds casuals...

[The Dribbling Code @dribblingcode]

@pollybirkbeck @Yorkshire_Tales @SoundsClips GB and GJ were the main ones stirring the casual pot, & would be prime suspects if it arrived with no stamp.

[The Dribbling Code @dribblingcode]

@Yorkshire_Tales @pollybirkbeck @SoundsClips I expect a lot of the letters in Sounds were made up by their own writers, some were genuine though.

[The Dribbling Code @dribblingcode]

@Yorkshire_Tales @pollybirkbeck @SoundsClips I think it was more a case of them approaching him, and he was happy to cover any new street movement, but the bands never materialised as far as 'casual' was concerned. Hence there were loads of letters in Sounds but not much music to cover.

[The Dribbling Code @dribblingcode]

@Yorkshire_Tales @SoundsClips @brideweltaxis Maybe depends on how old you were. Younger lot that I knew around '83 (still school age) were mainly listening to Simple Minds and The Style Council on ghetto blasters!

[The Dribbling Code @dribblingcode]

@Yorkshire_Tales @pollybirkbeck @SoundsClips Bushell put them on the cover... I think they got the Chelsea gig by approaching a certain Ken Bates in person.

[The Dribbling Code @dribblingcode]

@Yorkshire_Tales @SoundsClips .. You never really saw band T-shirts worn much until The Smiths and then the Weddoes a few years later.
