In the last few weeks there have been serious and concerning developments regarding my sons’ father, Imran Khan’s treatment in prison. The Pakistan authorities have stopped all visits to him by his family and his lawyers. They have also postponed all court hearings. In addition to cutting off in- person visits, and in defiance of a court order, his weekly calls to his sons, Sulaiman and Kasim Khan, who are British and who live in London, were stopped on 10th September. We have received reports that the authorities have now turned off the lights and electricity in his cell and he is no longer allowed to leave his cell at any time. The jail cook has been sent on leave. He is now completely isolated, in solitary confinement, literally in the dark, with no contact with the outside world. His lawyers are concerned about his safety and well-being.
These actions come in the context of ongoing targeting of Imran’s family, as well as his party (PTI) members and supporters in an attempt to silence them and all political opposition in Pakistan. Imran’s nephew, Hassan Niazi, a civilian, has been detained in military custody since August 2023. More recently, Imran Khan’s sisters, Uzma and Aleema Khan, who have continued to speak out on his behalf, have also been arrested as they made their way peacefully to a demonstration and they are currently being held in jail, despite there being no proper or lawful basis for their imprisonment.
In June this year the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found that Imran is unlawfully and arbitrarily detained and called for his immediate release.
As a matter of urgency , we are calling for Imran Khan’s release, and for the release of his sisters and nephew as well as for his sons’ contact with their father to be re-established, so that they may have assurance first-hand that he is well and not being mistreated.

A different style and a different philosophy: why I, as an Arab Jew, would never accuse society of being antisemitic
Over the past couple of months, I have identified as an Arab Jew, meaning a person of Jewish descent who is ethnically and culturally Arab. This time I want to explain how this identity translates into a different existential philosophy, and I will go about it using the subject of antisemitism, or, to be more precise, the accusation of antisemitism, which by now has become the go-to strategy for virtually all Jewish organizations in the West.
I will explain the very good and solid reasons why I, as an Arab Jew, would never do that.
-
I will be using language that is my own, but a logic that corresponds to things I knew and saw with my own eyes. You see, the most prominent quality of Arab Jews, the one feature that would strike you when you met them, is their humility. Arab Jews were mostly traditional, communal, and meek creatures. They were averse to big ideologies, loud voices, and pathos. They were undoubtedly believers in God and the Torah, but their belief largely took on a gentler, quieter aspect, and they mostly wanted to be left alone to live and act in their communities as their forefathers did.
So this is me giving words to an actual tradition and school of thought that has gone near extinct, and very sadly so.

First, as an Arab Jew, I would never accuse society of being antisemitic for a very intuitive reason: I don't want this kind of attention to myself and my community. I know that the business of collective accusations can never play out well for me, as I am in no position to force my views on other people. My instincts and interests command me to be as transparent and uncumbersome as possible. I don't want to stand out, and I certainly don't want to single myself out by positioning myself against general society. No no no. I want to live in as much harmony with society as possible. So I would never create a barrier of you versus me, which is what accusations of antisemitism do.
Second, I don't want to sin against people by accusing them collectively of terrible things. I have friends, neighbors, and people I interact with every day who are not Jewish. Some of them I love like my own family. Why would I call them names? So in any mishap, I will look for other explanations: a misunderstanding, an overreaction, an isolated incident, a momentary lapse of reason - I will do whatever I can to not be in an accusatory stance. I know that most people are ok and not hateful, so why would I bunch them together using myself as the glue?
Third, I know that nothing good can come out of this for me. If I lecture people, will they start to like me? If they were mildly unhappy with me for whatever reason before, would telling them they are guided by a secret mental illness improve my condition one bit? I always remember I need to engage with society with an open and welcoming heart, as this is not only the best way to conduct yourself as a human being, but also the best policy against undeserving animosity.
Fourth, I want to make hatred of Jews (insomuch as it exists as a unique form of collective hate and not just another prejudice against people who are different, which is a problem all of humanity suffer from, myself included) a forgotten historical fact. I don't want to revive it by constantly bringing it into the discussion.
Fifth, I don't want the extremely dubious privilege of thinking I am beyond criticism. I know people hate that, and I also know this is a sure way to corrupt myself morally, which never gets you anywhere desirable.

There is something so counterintuitive, so bizarre, in the way Jewish American and Zionist organizations handle themselves these days. It is very hard to explain why they behave like they don't have the slightest idea why anyone would be angry, and I have no idea how they are not afraid to make such broad accusations against billions. One thing I know for sure: this is not the Arab-Jewish way of doing things. Our communities, our public figures, our spiritual leaders would never even consider behaving like this. For me, this is not only stupid and dangerous, it is the complete opposite of the spirit of my grandparents and their families and communities. Patently wrong on so many levels, and foreign, is what this behavior is to me, as I'm sure it would be to any Arab-Jewish leader in memory.
The Palestinians, facing down the most powerful countries in the world, left virtually alone even by their allies, have suffered immeasurably. But they have won this war. They, their journalists, their doctors, their rescue teams their poets, academics, spokespeople, and even their children have conducted themselves with a courage and dignity that has inspired the rest of the world. The young generation in the western world, particularly the new generation of young Jewish people in the US, have seen through the brainwashing and propaganda and have recognised apartheid and genocide for what it is. The governments of the most powerful countries in the western world have lost their dignity, and any respect they might have had. Yet again. But the millions of protestors on the streets of Europe and the US are the hope for the future of the world.
Palestine will be free.
Statement by Arundhati Roy at the meeting of Working People Against Apartheid and Genocide in Gaza, at the Press Club, New Delhi, on March 7.
BREAKING: YEMENI HOUTHI OFFICIAL STATEMENT
“- For the nineteenth week in a row, the barbaric Israeli aggression against Gaza continues, committing the most heinous and horrific crimes.
The enemy is creative in committing heinous crimes in Gaza, and the forces of evil support him with the most deadly and modern means of destruction and killing.
- The destructive bombs and missiles provided to the Zionist enemy are the latest in technology from America, Britain and some Western countries
- High-explosive bombs are intended to confront armies that have military bases and huge military equipment, but they are dropped on the heads of children, women, and infrastructure in Gaza.
- The massive level of destruction and the continuation of crimes at a high rate in Gaza is due to the American superiority over the Zionist capabilities.
The Israelis would not have inflicted all this comprehensive destruction and horrific crimes on the Gaza Strip without the American support provided to them
- The American is primarily responsible for the level of destruction and crime in Gaza and its continuation for this long period
- The American provides huge funding for heinous crimes and activated emergency provisions twice, as if the Israeli was part of the American army
- The Israeli enemy transported more than 25 thousand tons of American shells and missiles to kill children and women in Gaza and destroy homes.
- The American participates directly in aviation, espionage and reconnaissance to provide the necessary information to build plans and operations
- The American participates with experts and in the meetings of the Israeli War Council for his partnership in the operation and aggression against Gaza
- The American provides protection at the regional level to the enemy entity and pressures and encourages some countries to take negative positions towards the people of Gaza
- American pressure forced countries to fail, weaken the Islamic position, and provide secret support to the Zionist enemy
- The American confronts the free forces that support the Palestinian people, including the aggression against our country
- The American provides political support to the enemy entity in the Security Council, and uses its veto to veto any humanitarian decision in favor of the residents of Gaza
The total air raids on Gaza amounted to more than 46 thousand raids on a limited, densely populated geographical area
The amount of explosives used by the enemy on Gaza is equivalent to 4 atomic bombs that America dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
During the first two months alone, American officials admitted that the Israeli enemy dropped 29,000 American-made bombs on Gaza.
Some reports indicate that America provided 3,000 bombs weighing up to 2,000 pounds, in addition to other types
- American bombs have the ability to destroy entire neighborhoods, and their deadly shrapnel extends up to 365 meters in Gaza.
The Israeli enemy uses toxic white phosphorus bombs with a burning temperature of up to 800 degrees Celsius
The Israeli enemy admitted to firing more than 90,000 shells and artillery missiles into Gaza within 50 days.
The Zionist enemy used various weapons to make the Gaza Strip unfit for life, according to Zionist statements
- The health situation in the Gaza Strip is very catastrophic under difficult circumstances in which epidemics are likely to spread and there is a lack of medicines and clean water.
- The remaining hospitals in Gaza are besieged and the enemy is creating a new tragedy there, as is the case with the Nasser Medical Complex
- The Israeli enemy steals citizens’ homes that were not bombed
Palestinian female prisoners are subjected to horrific violations that affect human dignity in enemy prisons
It is the despicable nature of the Israeli enemy to exhume 2,000 graves, steal more than 300 bodies, steal vital organs from them, and destroy 13 cemeteries in the governorates of the Gaza Strip. /1
