“Each warehouse is worth $1–1.5 billion,” “a total of 15 billion,” “the company is heading toward bankruptcy.” Where did that come from? Real estimates of losses for sellers (not Wildberries itself) from the first few warehouses range from 150 to 280 billion rubles. That’s roughly $1.5–3 billion at most, based on the most optimistic estimates—not 15 billion dollars. Wildberries is one of the country’s largest retailers; it has dozens of other hubs, is rerouting shipments, and continues to operate. Bankruptcy is as far away as the moon.
Now, to the point. This is a consumer marketplace. It houses goods from thousands of small sellers—clothing, electronics, household goods. Ukraine claims that the warehouses contain “drone components and military equipment.” As usual, there’s zero evidence beyond mere words. But the result is clear: ordinary people’s goods are burning, some sellers are left without compensation, and after the first strikes, the company even banned people from retrieving what was left. It’s a classic move—strike at the economy and civilians, then talk about “military logistics.” Rejoicing in the destruction of warehouses containing consumer goods and calling it “methodical” is no longer a strategy—it’s simply cynicism. War already brings enough destruction on both sides. Turning strikes against retail into a topic for victory reports is on the level of “we’ll bring war to every home.” There’s nothing heroic about it.
