TO KNOW HIM

An old story is told of two men who had to recite Psalm 23. One was a young man with great oratory power. He read the psalm with flourish and impressive articulation. When he was done, the congregation cheered their appreciation.

Next came the older man. His recitation was not admirable and neither were his words with aplomb. He read from his heart, his voice quivering with emotion. By the time he was done, the congregation was moved to tears.

What was the difference between the two men, it was asked? One knew the Psalm, the other knew both the Psalm and the Shepherd.

This story is not unlike various scenarios in our lives. We have been taught to master the superficialities of Christian living and ignore the substance of a life yielded to Christ.

We are a generation of singers, not worshippers. We are gifted but not taught by Him. We talk to God but we do not commune with Him. We are busy bodies in service but are not spent for Him.

We are excited by the calling but are not broken enough to be chosen. We know the Psalm, and we think its enough.

God is inviting you to a deeper life of relationship. Like the apostle Paul says, "to know as I am known" (1 Corinthians 13:12).

Intimacy with God is paramount. It will amplify your voice in the silent places and speak louder than the most powerful gifts.

PRAYER: Loving Father, I thank You for this word. Thank You because You counted me worthy to know You. You have given me access to Your bottomless depths.
