ON WOMEN’S MONTH??
A remark by Quezon City Rep. Bong Suntay drew sharp criticism during Tuesday’s Committee on Justice deliberations on the verified impeachment complaints against Vice President Sara Duterte.
During the March 3 hearing, Suntay recounted seeing actress Anne Curtis at a hotel and described having “desire” and imagining “what could happen,” adding that such thoughts were only in his imagination and not something he could be sued over.
Suntay said this to argue that Duterte should not be charged for stating that she had imagined cutting President Bongbong Marcos' head at one event or that she said she declared herself a designated survivor during one of his SONAs.
San Juan Rep. Ysabel Zamora immediately objected, saying the comment was inappropriate, especially at the start of Women’s Month. She moved to have Suntay’s statement stricken from the record, stressing that lawmakers should support women and refrain from making such remarks.
Suntay defended himself, saying there was “nothing sexual, nothing immoral” in what he said, and objected to the motion. The committee, however, approved the move to strike his statement off the record.
The exchange took place as the panel continued its deliberations on the impeachment complaints against the vice president.
