@stfxuniversity is well represented (3 alum!) on the co-author list of this important study, just published in Nature Climate Change. Permafrost is a bigger carbon emitter than we thought because emissions continue in the winter: https://t.co/KAFiUuE7gv
Excited to share we are one of 8 companies selected for @innovacorp's Accelerate Program (out of 137 applicants!)
The award includes funding and six months of business guidance. Thank for for this wonderful opportunity Innovacorp.

Congrats to @arolytics co-founder Emmy for delivering a rockin' pitch last night! I was in great suspense watching the live stream from Calgary. So excited to be part of #VoltaCohort!
Can we just agree that every student should do an Aquatic Resource field course in the Cape Breton highlands? Because it's awesome? Thanks @drisk_eh for letting me TA and getting students pumped about barnacle larvae!!
A more personal @fluxlab feature than I’m used to! A process I love: Hiring keen 1st year students as research technicians, building their skills for years, sending them (inter)nationally for projects, watching them get headhunted and/or besting PhD students for meeting awards.
We’re honouring Dr. Dave Risk, Professor of Earth Sciences at StFX and head of The Flux Lab, which has given countless students real-world research experience.
One of his students had this to say: “He has an ability to help people realize skills they didn’t even know they had.”
...a real honour for me! Thanks to KE @StFXRowing (another 🙌 leader) for making this happen. In @kentmacdonald I see deliberate leader who reflects and sees himself from the outside. He strikes a balance between dreamer and realist. He trusts and listens. I’ll miss him.
Dr. Dave Risk is introducing StFX President Dr @kentmacdonald, and praising his personal style of leadership.
“Kent buys Timbits and coffee for staff clearing StFX walkways in the early morning. He’s a passionate man who has borne the weight of StFX with integrity and honour.”
What’s our capacity to produce #biogas and renewable natural gas (#RNG) in Nova Scotia, via waste-to-gas conversion? Estimates suggest we have sufficient organic wastes to satisfy 100% of our natural gas needs...renewably. As Quebec dives in, we too should examine #RNG economics.
The world’s largest pork producer could disrupt the entire industry by investing hundreds of millions to turn manure into biogas. https://t.co/qHKj3nPVe1
Defences, graduations, and startups...seeing people move on from @FluxLabX is always sad. And rebuilding takes work. But wow - what a well rounded and high functioning team I’ve worked with during the last few years. The accomplishments and futures they’ve earned...amazing!
An ultra composed MSc defence from @tarahanl0n (in grey, prepping anemometer)! Her research improves wind measurement from moving vehicles. It’s a difficult measurement that, if done well, helps us accurately measure natural gas leaks whilst in motion. @FluxLabX
Interesting. It makes me wonder why the fossil energy sector is so dogmatic on pipeline business model. Maybe profit. In Nova Scotia, we scaled controversial renewable wind energy projects - quickly - using clever community investment & ownership models. https://t.co/Ca67Wa76BU
Yes, big congrats on wrapping up a fantastic MSc thesis related to Capron Capture and Storage (#CCS)! A particularly strong second chapter where @nadia_tarakki investigated natural anomalies that can impact the surface monitoring “system” for such sites. Watch for the paper!
