@mehdirhasan Wait ... did you condemn hasans rhetoric? Not just about 9/11, but about houthis? Literally hosting one on stream? Almost 3000 people died that day, but today is about medhi and hasan βΌοΈβΌοΈ
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan Gee, I didn't say imports, medhi didn't say imports, i brought up somalia and explicitly said DONATIONS not imports ... I wonder where is this "context"??? ππ you went through all the effort to post a screenshot WITHOUT ANY REFERENCE TO IMPORTS LMAO keep coping ππππ
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan You're entitled to think that, but a starving somali family, Kurdish child, or Kuwaiti civilian would disagree. If they are wrong then good for you π
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan I agree they weren't neutral in practice, but officially, they declared themselves neutral. "Officially" means that is what they said, regardless of how they act. So "the u.s. was not officially neutral in practice" is kinda meaningless.
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan China building oil pipelines and not caring about human rights is selfish. U.s. caring about oil and human rights is also selfish. The u.s. is behaving ordinarily. If partnerships or agreements are contingent on selflessness then goodbye aid for gaza, kurds, israel, Iraq, anyone
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan Can you give me a single example of a country acted explicitly not out of self interest? All countries are selfish. Both u.s. and china. Even alliances and donations are done out of self interest.
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan Idk how else to say it. U.S. gov has multiple branches. The reagan/the executive took a friendly approach, the legislative branch took a critical approach to supporting Iraq. Officially, the u.s. declared neutrality. Again, every action since then has been helping the kurds
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan According to you, since we didn't help the kurds in 1988 then all of our actions after were meaningless. So I guess we should never support Gaza then? Do you think that civil rights, education, and Healthcare are human rights? The u.s. protected all of those + more in the mideast
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan Thats great, but "cheap food imports" have aren't relevant. Medhis post was about all u.s. intervention so I was responding to that
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan Dawg the action WAS the genocide prevention act ... how often is congress unanimous about something like that? Again, i disagree with the Reagan administrations actions
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan Thats great if you think that but my point wasn't about the iraq iran war, it was about u.s. protection of Kurdish minorities which is indisputably true.
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan Great so American led operations went from august 1992 to May 1993. U.N. led operations then continued until 1995, then they stopped too. Was that too long? Maybe they should only provide aid for 3 months?? Also, you just granted my point, not all u.s. intervention is bad lol
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan Again no countries are benevolent actors, China certainly isn't. Generally its a truism that nations act in self interest so idk why this is so important. China is also invested in the mideast, but doesn't try to protect human rights meaning they are LESS BENEVOLENT THAN THE U.S.
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan Again, the Iran Iraq war was a lesser of two evils situation. Also again congress UNANIMOUSLY condemned saddams actions. I agree that it was bad for reagan/the executive to work to dismiss it, but saying the u.s. has no regard for kurds is simply not true.
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan ... I guess we should stop donating food? They can deal with the civil war, drought, and famine themselves i guess? I thought donating food to save lives was a good thing, i guess we should let people starve?! Rip homeless people. Were you happy when trump killed usaid then??
@JBtoVanuatu@mehdirhasan Why resort to disrespect? 1. The u.s. hasn't used chemical weapons since vietnam. 2. Genocide prevention act of 1988 3. If it's so bad that the u.s. acts in self interest, can you point to an example where a country hasn't acted in percieved self interest?
