Amble’s founders José, Adrien and Julian join Robert Bound at Monocle’s 10th Quality of Life Conference to talk beginnings, lessons from the road and what comes next.
If you are in Lisbon, give us a shout.
There are 4 new cars left in America under $25,000. Ten years ago there were 36
Meanwhile half of all US trips are under 3 miles
That’s why @JulianHoenig (an ex-Apple and Audi designer) co-founded the @driveamble $25k electric buggy instead of a car
It has no doors, a cork steering wheel, 992 lbs, and resorts like Amangiri committed to 500 of them before a single delivery. Consumer version coming in 2028
Amble cofounder Julian Hoenig says they've received 1,000+ preorders for its premium, street-legal electric golf cart in their first 3 days.
Hoenig previously worked in design at Apple under Jony Ive, plus Audi and Lamborghini. Amble's CTO came from F1.
#designoftheday The Amble One reimagines the traditional golf cart cart as an object of thoughtful design that reminds me of the lunar rover. Its open-air architecture, honest materials & restrained simplicity transform short trips into memorable adventures. https://t.co/2CKeVnac1o
Google "Discovery Bay Hong Kong".
Great model for any city IMO:
- No cars allowed
- Public transport
- Expensive golf kart licenses to restrict qty on the road
This makes more sense to me than the Jony Ive Ferrari
It integrates both Apple and Audi (the Luce doesn’t seem like a Ferrari) and it has a very clear ICP: boomers with money who golf, live in golf courses or retirement communities, and/or shouldn’t be driving real cars anymore
Welcome to the Amble One, a road legal electric buggy designed for beach trips, far flung resorts and a slower, more appreciative pace of life https://t.co/W47C06ZAEc
An ex-Apple designer wants to reinvent the neighborhood vehicle with a cute new electric buggy from a startup called Amble. It’s designed for resorts—but also low-speed use on city streets. https://t.co/8ut5ZMZ2Ky
Amble is our most recent investment. Julian was Audi R8 and Audi A4 designer before joining Apple a long time ago; Adrien was formerly Cowboy CEO. This vehicle is positioned to sell into hospitality for now, with consumer orders after that. I was able to drive the vehicle in Portugal earlier this year and it’s really a fun beach cruiser.
