From @zcserei:
I’d like to address the GitHub graph question.
GitHub tracks commits that are merged onto the main / master branch of a repository.
Normally, development happens on other branches and it is not merged to the main branch until it’s good to go.
CI (continuous integration) systems work in a manner where they “grab” the code from a certain branch once it’s pushed and deploy it automatically to the server.
What happened here is we’ve done a lot of work (I’ve personally authored more than 1000 commits) on development branches, not merging to main because v1 and v2 are technically _very_ different (backend is new major Rails version, frontend is entirely different frontend framework, Next instead of Vue).
We have now set up the staging and main deployment environments, v2 is deployed to a manual testing / QA environment, the only thing left to turn it on (apart from going through with the QA process) is connecting the domain to the new environment.
I know that sharing GitHub graphs is common in the space as a sign of activity, but let me tell you, it’s completely bogus.
Some people commit twice a day. I like to commit quite frequently, basically saving changes every time there’s a bit of progress that works.
More than that, you could pretty much ask any AI to whip up a script that automates a bunch of backdated commits.
“Claude, write me a script that adds 100k commits to my last year, make it so that dark green tiles over light green tiles spell out VERNUS”
or
“Gemini, write me a script that adds 2k commits to my git history, paced so that it all looks natural”
In essence: whether there is or isn’t activity on a graph doesn’t mean anything. If the graph is empty, it could mean there’s heavy work going on. If it’s full, it could be all baloney. Bad metric.
Being human-first also means being there for every human.
A massive accessibility feature set is being deployed for Vernus, with colour modes, ARIA compliance, motion and contrast accessibility built in.
