I’m the product of TWO EDUCATED BLACK WOMEN ✨
Mom & [step] mom who raised me. Med school was hard, but nothing compares to the trauma of loosing both moms to breast cancer.
This MD degree is for them! Their legacies will carry on through me as I fight racial health disparities.
I missed y’all on here 🥹
I graduated from residency almost 5 months ago & I haven't started working yet.. this break has been restorative.
Will start my 1st attending job in a clinic working part time soon.
Truly grateful I took the time to figure out what's best for ME. 🫶🏾
If you’re an URM applying to #FMRevolution for #Match2026, check out my former residency program’s virtual open house! 🌟
Unlike a lot of programs, they still prioritize diversity and have an active DEI team.
Did I just say that out loud? 👀🤭
@CMBarbee_ Hmm in my experience sometimes when ppl ask “where are you from,” they’re not satisfied if you say a U.S. city.
Instead, they’ll ask “where’s your last name from?” — what they really want is to know if you’re 1st or 2nd gen immigrant.
Yes, as obesity medicine doctors we know most people will regain weight if they stop GLP-1s. That’s not a secret, it’s part of the counseling we give. Obesity is a chronic disease. Just like diabetes or hypertension, if you stop treatment, the condition worsens. Acting like this is a “failure” of the medication doesn’t just ignore science, it exposes bias. It implies people with obesity should have the “willpower” to keep the weight off, when in reality it’s biology, not morality.
I gotta find a go to sentence for ppl who have the audacity to ask me very specific medical questions when I’m meeting them for the 1st time.. someone asked me what I do and then proceeded to ask me very detailed medical questions???
Like wha… I absolutely don’t wanna talk about your medical problems in the middle of brunch. Nor do I want to use that part of my brain.. nor am I getting compensated & my malpractice doesn’t cover free medical advice while I’m having drinks ??
