Always going to repost this kind of sentiment because universities are abandoning expertise in favour of skills. Skills advocates have poisoned our disciplines and undermined the rich expertise that was once found in our universities

@roryisconfused @CCguerilla What I mean is if you go to a restaurant you would never pay for a glass of tap water, because you have the same tap at home and it costs basically nothing. If journal articles, PhDs and books are written by genAI then they are ostensibly worthless. If not yet then eventually.

@roryisconfused @CCguerilla One argument is that we sound like folks 100 years ago saying horses are still better than motor cars because cars break down, etc. GenAI will get better. The deeper argument is that it is and will continue to devalue the written word, and that we all have the same genAI spigot.

@NonwayneWayne Education is filled with fads that don't actually work, or more often than not make it worse. HE is stacked with it.
