10 things every computer user should know:

1/10 Back up your data regularly

Setting a “backup” takes a few minutes. “Backup” data to an external hard drive and cloud services. in this case, no matter what happens to your hardware and no matter where you are, you’ll still get your data back.

2/10 Keep your personal informations safe

Make sure you use a strong password and never use open public Wi-Fi networks without protection.

Be suspicious about strange emails, don’t click on suspicious links, and don’t send your personal information to any site that doesn’t use HTTPS.

3/10 Regular maintenance is key

One of the most important things is to install security patches on regular base. Also, regularly clean the temporary files and carefully uninstall unnecessary programs

4/10 Allow batteries to last longer

Lithium-ion batteries work best when they are a little empty. Lithium-ion batteries don’t need to be 100% charged all the time. Better to stick to the rules of 40% – 80%. If you charge the battery up to 100%, don’t leave it connected to the cable, once the recharge is completed.

Malicious viruses or spyware could be deposited on your computer, slowing it down or destroying files. By using safety measures and good practices to protect your devices, you can protect your privacy and your family.

James Watt did not invent the steam engine (Thomas Newcomen did, in 1712) but Watt's 1769 invention of the separate condenser made the engine approximately four times more fuel-efficient, which is what made steam power economically viable at industrial scale and triggered the Industrial Revolution.

The lesson: the most consequential engineering advance is often not the invention - it is the improvement that makes the invention useful.
