I worked on a sample from my youngest customer to-date today. My coworker’s son was convinced that he had found gold. We did some EDS analysis to confirm, but sadly only found pyrite. I suspect our SEM demo lab here at JEOL will be quite busy aiding his prospecting now.

Epidote? More like epi-whoa!

I know Sam was all about large garnet porphyroblasts the other day, but we couldn’t help but dote on this absolutely beautiful epidote amphibolite today.

Everyone is talking about “coherent paragneiss” but Sam and I are just in it for the big garnets.

Any guesses on how long it will take to micromill a (small portion of a) single chemical zone from this garnet megablast?

Hint: I could probably mount, polish, and date a couple dozen zircons in the same amount of time 😅 good thing it’s worth it!

Today is my first full day back in the clean lab since fracturing my tibia/spraining my ACL a month ago. It’s been a slow and frustrating healing process, but I’m glad to be back at it! Can’t wait to help figure out how old these east coast garnets are 👩‍🔬⛰
