As a copy editor and proofreader, I sympathize. I am quite Tyr'd a lot of the time, too. Perhaps you could proofread the book for yourself as you read it?
Happy 400th birthday John Aubrey, biographer, folklorist, antiquary, and scientist. Delighted to have signed a new biography with Penguin Random House and to be launching a new edition of “John Aubrey’s Villa” tonight.
@LewisPRoberts I’ve had very good results by staying extremely relaxed and giving the rude person a tutorial in whatever they’ve just said. Usually they realise instantly that they are speaking from a very shallow basis and that it reflects poorly on them
We’ve all read funny book opinions, but this one-star review of The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter (Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin, Mrs. Tittlemouse, etc.) had me in stitches.
This has been online for a while but has its home in an issue at last! A long labour of love.

Turkish Baths were common in Victorian times, but only several remain, dating back to the 19th century. 💧

In January 1649, King Charles I was executed after being tried for treason. This is the death warrant that authorised the King’s beheading, signed and sealed by 59 commissioners, including Oliver Cromwell, who were known as the ‘Regicides’. #TowerTreasures
Last night, the Russian army struck the center of Dobropillya in the Donetsk region with two ballistic missiles. After our emergency services arrived at the scene, they launched another strike, deliberately targeting the rescuers. This is a vile and inhumane intimidation tactic often used by the Russians.
Tragically, at this moment, 11 people are confirmed dead. My condolences to their families and loved ones. More than 30 people were injured, including 5 children. Eight five-story apartment buildings, an administrative facility, and a fire truck were damaged.
I thank all the emergency services, police, SES personnel, and medics who, despite the threat of repeated strikes, remain undaunted and are saving people from this terror. To everyone who defends lives while risking their own.
Such strikes show that Russia's objectives have not changed. Therefore, it is crucial to continue to do our best to protect lives, strengthen our air defenses, and increase sanctions against Russia. Everything that helps Putin finance the war must collapse.
