@mancunianmedic It depends on the hospital. Friend with severe radiculopathy and the beginnings of bilat sx kept in 2 days and several £100 per night just so she can be scanned on Monday. In greater Manchester where there are *a lot* of big hospitals with radiologists who could report.

Really interesting to understand what was driving the people (men!) who developed the statistical tests we rely on so much in #PublicHealth and #medical research 🤔
Hey my medicine and public health people!
How much do you know about eugenics?
Just old pseudoscience, you say?
Any idea how much it continues to influence us?
Answer: A LOT.
I taught a class on the history of eugenics and public health today. Here's what we covered: 🧵
My perspective on AAs; a 🧵
I was an ANP before medical school and am now a specialty doctor in anaesthetics.
I work with 2 qualified AAs who are excellent,
I am often asked for my opinion given my background, so here it is a long thread including my own story.
We wonder why our cancer stats are getting worse? And with rates of #cancer in younger people skyrocketing relying on under trained HCPs doing "pattern recognition" is not going to cut it. Seen too many young #bowelcancer PTs diagnosed too late 😞😞😞
@UKGastroDr The situation just goes from bad to worse 🤬
As a GP I don’t expect PAs to be triaging my 2WW referrals & as a patient I’d be horrified that HCPs w/ a 2yr Masters deg could reject my 2WW referral w/out a Dr ever even seeing it.
Who is facilitating this dangerous madness?
@10GMpartners@GMCancerAcademy@maggiesmanc Although the two pictured poems are by people sadly no longer with us 😔 but remembered often through fond memories and their wonderful writing.
@10GMpartners@GMCancerAcademy These are poems written by members of Maggie's Creatives - a writing group for those affected by cancer based at @maggiesmanc (and some of the loveliest people you'll meet!)
First day back at work in >18 months. Homelessness, disability due to long covid and cancer, solo parenting and a new lens from my autism diagnosis are giving me different perspectives on #PublicHealth. Still determined to make a difference in this seemingly decaying world.
The "small" acts of believing a patient, ensuring they understand everything that is going to happen and developing trust are absolutely enormous to most people, and those with extra needs especially (I can think of times I've been on the end of both good and bad practice)
1/11 My good deed for the week. A 🧵
Halfway through my endo list yesterday the DSU nurse came in.
“The last patient's arrived with his mother. He’s autistic and says he gets seizures when he is overstimulated.” She handed me his file. “There’s a letter from the neurologist”.
