We are at a precipice, with “legacy patients” being abandoned and patients who appropriately rely on opioid medications such as those with sickle-cell disease — being subject to life-threatening misapplication of opioid stewardship efforts. @StefanKertesz https://t.co/1J5sZzKs94
#Fentanyl is NOT just in opioids. It is being found in coke, benzos, meth, occasionally ketamine or MDMA, and all kinds of other stuff (not weed tho). This isn't an issue for #opioid users. It's for everyone who uses drugs, period.
Mass General Brigham backs tax to support affordable housing;—-Would hope MGB avoid complacency given $1.1billion in latest quarterly net income—this is a positive stance but let’s do much much more. @Bostonstreetdoc @MKushel https://t.co/zcHVhKuWFB
Don’t know if twitter is the place to wail the sadness I feel at the passing of Rich Saitz. Perhaps our collective sorrow will yield to the passion for work, evidence and community he personified so beautifully. He was and is a force of nature we have been blessed to behold.
So sorry to share news of the passing of Dr Mary Jeanne Kreek, one of the pioneers of methadone and understanding scientific basis of opioid addiction. My sympathy is with her survivors with gratitude for her work and decades of brilliant dedication. She will be missed.
Chilling description of callous indifference to #covid in minimum security prison in CT. Probably qualitatively and quantitatively worse at other carceral settings. via @NYTimes @RoniNYTimes https://t.co/e5ulyMvs3S
Yes! Resonates with the challenges and wisdom of experience. Long-form version should be in a Med humanities publication. Respecting and truly hearing a patient begin the hard tasks of beneficence, sometimes disagreeing w pt. Alliance is sine qua non.
#medtwitter When a new patient tells you, only you have asked the right questions, only you are the humanistic health care provider: a) be a bit proud; b) but not that proud; & c) be aware of a sign of either-or, friend/foe thinking, common in survivors of chronic trauma. /1
"Mass and Cass is a community united by trauma, tragedy, tenderness and toughness. It is where homelessness, chronic mental health problems and the overdose crisis combine in degrading and deadly ways. It is an infuriating example of how the preventable is not prevented."

What a privilege to aid peers in efforts to support patient autonomy during #Covid19 Thanks @MGHMedicine PSST! I Need Help! Development of a Peer Support Program for Clinicians Having Serious Illness Conversations During COVID-19 | SpringerLink https://t.co/hpEGSYJyZV
1) people w/ #education and high income are the decision makers 2) during the pandemic they fared better and all others fared worse. Would others have made different decisions?https://t.co/ceD1a1fOxX @sandrogalea@BUSPH
Ponder this seemingly simple but complex statement from a patient seen on the inpatient addiction consult service. “They can’t discharge me because I have a hole in my hand .”
And now the fine print: Without x-waiver cap will be 30 patients (in state). 275 limit remains. APPs still will be required to do x-waiver training Much work to be done clearly.
It’s real! Game-changer for USA #addiction treatment; we now have a huge (and welcome) peer education challenge to realize the potential of reduced restrictions to improve access @DrSarahWakeman @DrKimSue . https://https://t.co/IZU6IfLlFh via @statnews
