Ultimately, SHA’s success will be measured by whether every Kenyan feels seen, protected and cared for, building a more equitable and dependable health system where everyone can say, “When I needed healthcare, SHA was there for me.”
Yesterday at the Kenya Health Summit, I reflected on how far the Social Health Authority (SHA) has come and more importantly, why this transformation matters.
Nearly two years into implementation, SHA has grown from a vision on paper into a health system touching Kenyans lives.
As we move beyond this Summit, our greatest responsibility is to keep people at the centre of every reform,to listen to Kenyans, strengthen trust, respond to challenges, and work with healthcare workers, counties, communities and partners to make UHC a reality.
To my team, thank you for believing, persevering, and delivering. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together, and even more excited about what lies ahead.
#SHA922LIFELINE
What a week it has been!
Wednesday August 5th marked the realization of a dream that has been built through vision, dedication, and the unwavering commitment of an incredible team.
As we celebrate this milestone, we are also reminded that this is not the finish line, it is the beginning. The real work starts now. We remain committed to ensuring that every Kenyan can access timely, coordinated emergency medical services when they need them most.
“Only 9% of the African continent has access to emergency care services." ~ Dr. Mercy Mwangangi, CEO (SHA), during the launch of the SHA 922 Emergency Services.

As we continue strengthening the Social Health Authority, our focus remains clear: ensuring every Kenyan can access quality healthcare when they need it most.
This journey belongs to all of us.
World Health Assembly | Geneva
I was honoured to join Kenya’s delegation to the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva, led by Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, alongside senior government officials and health sector leaders.
At the Assembly, Kenya highlighted progress in primary healthcare, including the role of over 107,000 Community Health Promoters, as well as advances in digital health, data-driven decision-making, disease surveillance, and health financing reform.
World Health Assembly in Geneva
At the 79th World Health Assembly held in Geneva from May 18–23, 2026, Kenya's Social Health Authority (SHA) played a prominent role in advancing the global conversation on Universal Health Coverage.
At the French Embassy, I confirmed the execution plan for SHA with partners, in line with the agenda set by CS Aden Duale. Our focus is sustainable financing, digital health, & quality care. Our urgent priority: boosting Maternal Health & Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs).
