With increasing distance, David Bowie is sounding more and more like Rainer Maria Rilke, and I mean that in the best possible way. https://t.co/fpgLsiUdD8
Let me be a little more precise here. I see several hundred people in this image, maybe up to a thousand. The population of Newburgh is 29,000. That's pretty close to the 3.5% limit which is considered the threshold where autocratic regimes can't keep themselves in power.
When more than 3.5% of the population engage in political protest, autocratic regimes can typically not keep themselves in power. This rule was found by political scientist Erica Chenoweth. #NoKings
If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies: “We don’t have the faintest idea what a generalized AI might want, except that it will want to expand in the most mindless, turbo-capitalist way.”
On yesterday's flight @KLM 643 AMS-JFK, the on-board Wifi did not work. Turns out the system has a TLS certificate that expired on December 23. The crew told people to just press "trust this site" in their browser. This is not possible on Android devices.
Another exception is the Tesla, which shows no warning, since the car cannot be operated without the screen. I will be curious to see how "the system" in German cars matures into "this screen" before it vanishes altogether.
Recently drove a brand-new Mercedes, and this gave me pause. Here's the Mercedes, and there's the System. A separate entity that can be identified, debated, accepted or rejected. You can start the system by pressing the big button, but if you don't press that, it starts anyway.
I asked around, and got confirmation: Other car makers call it "this screen" or "this device". The car and the computer cannot be separated. An exception is the Mini, owned by German BMW, which calls it "this system", at least with an integrating "this".
