the whole ep has constantly been prepping us for the big confession from chan

1. getting bothered that key was upset with her and wanting to make it up to her
2. chan accepting key’s back hug and putting her hands over key’s
3. continuously checking if key is still sulking at her
4. letting key sleep on her bed and looking for her when she wakes up
5. overreacting over the knife cut
6. not rejecting or icing out key after she asks about the possibility of her falling for chan - (holds key’s hands and smiles instead)
7. not annoyed that key leaves her guitar anywhere in her house, notices the moon key(chain) and plays with key’s guitar
8. immediately smiles, gets up, and calls for key when she hears the door
9. running for key after the kiss with jay

ofc, we would have appreciated a more gradual build up and more scenes of them getting to know each other beyond the bed but at least it wasn’t a surprise that this was coming

I actually think your interpretation makes a lot of sense. The confession doesn’t necessarily feel like Chan suddenly realizing she’s in love with Key-it feels more like everything she’s been suppressing finally reached a point where she couldn’t keep avoiding it.

The no-kiss rule on Ep2 is probably the biggest evidence. If Chan genuinely saw Key as nothing more than a sugar baby, there wouldn’t be much reason for her to establish that boundary so firmly. Knowing now that she already felt something from their first kiss makes the rule feel less like rejection and more like Chan trying to control a situation that was already making her emotionally vulnerable.

And I agree about Key constantly being on her mind. Chan may not have been ready to openly admit what she felt, but her actions show that Key was already taking up space in her head. Then Jay comes back at exactly the worst possible time, before Chan has even figured out what she wants from Key. 😭

The door lock thing is also hilarious because girl, this entire mess could’ve been avoided if you had just changed the damn lock. 😂 But narratively, it makes sense that it became the catalyst. Chan suddenly had to confront the possibility that Key might actually leave and that she might not get another chance.

I think the important part of the confession isn’t necessarily “this is the perfect romantic moment for them.” It’s more “Chan finally decided she doesn’t want to lose Key.” And those are two different things.

She had a terrible set of circumstances thrown at her: Key unexpectedly entering her life, Chan developing feelings she wasn’t prepared for, Jay returning before she could process any of it, and then the possibility of Key leaving. So yeah, the timing is messy and maybe the execution could’ve been better, but Chan choosing to act instead of letting Key walk away feels consistent with where her character has been heading.

Honestly, I think the confession makes more sense if you see it as Chan finally choosing Key, rather than Chan suddenly discovering her feelings for Key. The feelings were already there. She was just finally forced to stop running from them.

the micro expressions were so FREAKING good. the disbelief when key walked in, the shock that chanjay were in, the disappointment and the slow acceptance that key displayed..the headshake from chan to say that “its not what it looks like” and key’s “i see..i guess i’ll take my leave then” AND ALL WITHOUT DIALOGUE SOMEONE SEDATE ME PLEASE OH THIS WAS MASTERCLASS
