OK, I'm done. I'm deleting Twitter from my phone, and stepping back from this account. I've been here since 2008, but I don't want to lend another second of material support to Elon Musk's ego-stroking personal experiment in manufacturing consent and disinformation. 1/2
OK, last one: I did meet cool, hilarious people on Twitter, and occasionally learned something. But that's all overwhelmed by the hateful stench of the Musk era. I'm out.

The deadly and vast challenges facing the world are not going to be improved on a public forum that daily fragments our attention spans, preys on fear and anxiety while promoting lies and hatred. 2/2
@almurray He will be a mush-brained animatronic puppet within a year. It's not what he will do, but what his supporters will do in his name that should scare everyone.
He didn't build the wall, but the racist rhetoric of walls was enough.
He won't deport all migrants, but.... etc.
@bcmerchant Sure, whatever. Maybe don't play down the number of fascists happily voting fascist, though. That's a bigger problem than "the campaign didn't get the branding right".
People might want to suggest that Harris lost this race, but the real problem is the sheer number of Americans who bleat for freedom and cheer for fascism.
@cbotnyse@mchooyah "He does nasty things to his best friends. His best friend's wives. Anyone who he first tries to gain their trust ... and then uses it do bad things. That's how it goes [...] He knows nothing. No history. No strategy."
That's Epstein's assessment of Trump.
@itsmesharney Yes, it sounded pretty cool. But he was only a couple of sentences away from talking like a total twat:
"The MP for Clacton also called for Harris to pardon Trump “to dampen down” the threat of violence if she wins on election night amid a tight presidential race."
@HalSparks They should just stop covering his rallies. It's a bit late now, but he'd find out pretty fast that he needs the media to amplify his bullshit, and they keep gazing on in appalled fascination.
@Evangelope @iamAtheistGirl Even if it *was* "selfishness and pride", and that was not just a disgusting and demeaning insinuation you were making ........ it would still be *none of your business*.
@highbrow_nobrow I would give it a try, for sure. I'm planning to exit Twitter right after the US election (gotta have a marker to break out of an addiction, or something?), but wasn't planning to replace it with anything similar.
