Q12) @TroyVincentSr, before we wrap up our #TotalWellnessChat, what are some #mentalhealth resources that have been helpful as you continue to promote prioritizing mental health within the @NFL Community?
Q11) @TroyVincentSr: Given what we’re hearing about the #MentalHealth of young people, what are the conversations you’re having at home, with your kids and grandchildren? #TotalWellnessChat
Q8) @TroyVincentSr: Why was the peer-to-peer @NFL Transition Coach program one of the earliest resources you developed within Total Wellness? #TotalWellnessChat
Q7) My first #TotalWellnessChat question for you, @TroyVincentSr, what led you to create the @NFL Total Wellness platform in 2012 and focus resources on the wellbeing and #MentalHealth of the NFL community?
A6) @TroyVincentSr: Culture change takes a long time, and requires great effort from many spaces. The hope is that the program is helping to advance the total wellness of all players, their families, and members of the extended @NFL community. #TotalWellnessChat
A5) @TroyVincentSr: There is no one-size-fits-all approach. The resources that are available to connect him with the right professional for his challenge. Together they determine the best course of treatment. #TotalWellnessChat
But members of the @NFL family don’t need to be in crisis to use this resource. It can assist with solving day-to-day problems, and is an opportunity to get support from a trained resource.
A4) @TroyVincentSr: The @NFL Life Line is a confidential resource exclusively for players, @NFLLegends and their families who are in crisis.
In its 10 years, the NFL Life Line has fielded more than 2,700 calls and 745 chats. #TotalWellnessChat
They also deal with the challenge of navigating a culture that overemphasizes physical performance sometimes at the risk of their mental health.
@Saints LB @demario__davis and I talk more about that in this panel: https://t.co/iDqI9UFhVJ
A3) @TroyVincentSr: Sport is a microcosm of society. So we can expect to see players have some of the same challenges as those we see in the general public – anxiety, depression, substance abuse and dependence. #TotalWellnessChat
Athletes have the added stressor of being in the public eye, where any misstep is in the spotlight. They're under a constant pressure to perform at the highest level, risking injury.
Through the mental health resources offered by Player Care Foundation, @yourPAF, @playerstrust and the @NFLPA, we collaborate to make sure that we can practically meet any mental health need that a current or former @NFL player has.
A2) @TroyVincentSr: Creating a culture that prioritizes building positive #mentalhealth is a collective effort. The current CBA includes a Behavioral Health Agreement, which establishes behavioral health requirements for all 32 clubs. #TotalWellnessChat
The mental health focused requirements include hiring a licensed provider, creating an emergency action plan & providing club-wide education. We partner with the union to ensure those resources & services are well integrated & always remain confidential.
