From research to real impact.
Yesterday, I spoke at a national workshop hosted by the World Intellectual Property Organization in partnership with National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion.
Honored to share the stage with the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Dr. Tochukwu Udeh, and Prof. Ibrahim Katampe.
The focus was simple:
How do we move ideas from the lab to the market?
Innovation is not complete until it creates value.
We’re building a culture of impact-driven research in Africa. Join us as a partner, mentor, advisor, or supporter.
Together, we can redefine research & spark innovation-led growth.

What if final-year projects weren’t just for a degree but designed to solve real problems?
That’s the vision behind Obichi PitchLab.
#ObichiPitchLab#ResearchCommercialization
Launched during my convocation lecture at FUPRE, Obichi PitchLab helps final-year & graduate students commercialize their research — shifting projects from ritual to mission, from papers to products.
Proud to serve as the National Consultant for the WIPO Training, Mentoring, and Match-Making Program on Intellectual Property and Traditional Medical Knowledge (TMK) in Nigeria. And last week, I had the privilege of coordinating an important workshop on the Effective Use of Patents and Trademarks for the Protection of Traditional Medicine, at the United Nations House, Abuja (2nd – 4th September 2025).
This impactful 3-day program brought together traditional medicine practitioners, experts, policymakers, and community representatives to explore how intellectual property (IP) tools like patents, trademarks, labelling, and digital strategies can safeguard traditional medicine while strengthening community entrepreneurship.
Highlights of my sessions:
Day 1: Guided participants in a group discussion on developing IP strategies within community entrepreneurship and navigating herbal medicine regulatory requirements.
Day 2: Facilitated market access strategies discussions, addressing practical steps for communities to scale their herbal innovations.
Day 3: Led the open discussion session, engaging stakeholders on next steps for strengthening networks and sustainability.
One of the major highlights of the program was the session featuring contributions from eminent figures such as:
•Ms. Moji Adeyeye (DG, NAFDAC)
•Dr. Martins Emeje (DG, NNMDA)
•Mr. Kasim Waziri (University of Abuja)
•Ms. Cristina Garcia-Serna Cortes (WIPO)
Traditional medicine is a vital part of our cultural heritage. Protecting it through intellectual property rights, regulatory support, and digital innovation ensures it thrives in today’s global marketplace.

I also charged FUPRE to position Effurun as a hub for technological innovation and shared an 8-step approach for turning universities into true innovation ecosystems.
Nigeria has the talent and potential—now it’s time to turn research into real impact!
Are Our Universities Truly Innovation Hubs?
Yesterday, I had the privilege of delivering the 4th Convocation Lecture at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), where I challenged the audience to rethink the role of universities in Nigeria.
🔹 Should students turn their final-year projects into startups instead of leaving them on shelves?
To take action, I launched https://t.co/iobsTD8Ohd—a platform to help students transform their research into thriving businesses with expert mentorship and funding opportunities.
Honored to be at the AU Summit in Addis Ababa, witnessing the launch of the AU Artificial Intelligence Continental Roadmap. Grateful to have contributed to this transformative project over the past three years.
