Norton suggests, if enacted, neighborhoods meeting federal poverty and unemployment thresholds would qualify for targeted tax benefits designed to draw business activity, job creation, and long-term commercial stability.

MPD is funded by local DC taxpayers. I will not allow a bill to progress that would force DC to fund a local police force for the president to use indefinitely. Rep. Ogles' bill is yet another extreme attack on DC home rule. This will not stand.
It's been four days since Trump took over MPD and deployed the National Guard, but I wanna give a high-five to the city's small-but-mighty corps of reporters and citizen journalists. It's easy to be down on the state of journalism, but local reporters still rise to the challenge.
The EO allowing MPD to share immigration information with feds is outrageous. My colleagues and I are discussing the legality of this move and what actions we can take. We are a city that welcomes all and protects our residents.
D.C. residents, please join me & 18 former D.C. elected officials in speaking out against @realDonaldTrump's abuses of power regarding the Home Rule Act. We support @DCAttorneyGen's lawsuit filed this morning to stop Trump from violating our right to local control of our police.
We must band together, girded in our values. We cannot capitulate to this moment.
Housing Updates:
👉🏾 DC government is funding ride share and short term hotel stays for some residents cleared from encampments
👉🏾 All shelters will be open 24 hours
👉🏾 New York Ave Presbyterian is allowing unhoused neighbors to store their belongings
👉🏾 DC Shelter Hotline: 202-399-7093
We have a lot to be proud of in Washington, but what I am most proud of are our people and values.
And what I have seen over this past week is a city that knows how to stick together.
