📢Dr Órfh's Tote Bags 📢
Creating something tangible has been a big part of my recovery and of course I was going to connect it to my activism.
Bags are up now on my Buy Me A Coffee Shop.

The hyperbolic language and reaction to a ad highlighting the need for safe adults to also prioritise consent is demonstrating the widespread and deep rooted issues Ireland (a deeply mysgonistic society) continues to have with consent.
Depressing.
@cunnyfunt02@Mcphierson Saying that teaching children and adults about consent as part of the wider conversation on bodily autonomy is not conflating unwanted physical touch to rape. It is simply a rape charity branching out to all elements of the consent conversation.
Adult " Hey grandchild/niece/nephew/family friend, it's so good to see you. Can I have a hug?
Child: "Sure"
*Hugs*
Child: "No thanks"
Adult: "No problem, I'm just so happy to see you!"
Where is the issue?
Watch how the British press is about to hold Meghan more accountable for the crimes of her father than they held Andrew for the rape of minors or any other members of the Royal family for protecting and shielding him.
This Thomas Markle story is shocking, and if guilty, he must face full force of the law. But it raises a lot of questions: if police alerted Meghan in 2018 to allegations so serious she ended all contact, why was he not arrested? And why did she not go public to protect others?
So many right wingers coming out to put the woman's desire for a kiss above the child's desire to be left alone.
So the child should learn to accept that their body must be available for another person's gratification?
Consent shd be modeled & respected from toddlerhood.
It seems this is a case of our government having a kneejerk reaction to Religious Right international pressure, and we really should be past withdrawing ads about consent at the behest of the Religious Right in Ireland, for obvious reasons, right?
@grumpycorkchef Under 18s cannot consent to sexual touch. For them the conversation on consent has to be about any and all physical touch. This starts within the family and empowering children to know it is safe to say no to any unwanted touch.
The first child in the ad hugs the grandparents. The second child is uncomfortable with physical touch. The ad is highlighting differences in childrens needs and the imp of consent. It is not campaigning against grandparents. Dear god in heaven!!!
It goes without saying that having loving grandparents in a child’s life is an incredibly positive thing to be cherished and not something to be campaigned against.
What a day!
The idea that children should shoulder the discomfort of unwanted physical touch because the adults can't handle the discomfort of a conversation on consent if mind blowing 🤯
So many adults who clearly need to build a bit of resiliency.
The idea that the conversation around consent is only about rape is problematic. Consent conversation is also about empowerment, bodily autonomy, boundaries and respect for others.
@drorfh Such blatant ageism is something I find disgusting, your conflating elderly relatives hugging loved ones to rape. I think what people like you fail to perceive there is a nuance here and massive differences or maybe you don’t which is evil
@cursedbyaclown1 Saying that grandparents should respect kids consent is not demonising grandparents. Such a silly argument. The ad being pulled was disgraceful. The reaction shows we desperately need this conversation on consent for physical touch.
We are not demeaned by this video
Isn't this the very problem?
The feelings of older relatives prioritised over the discomfort of children
It was like that in my childhood
Nothing has changed
Kids need to know their discomfort matters, & we will pay attention to it
