Think I spent my leave cycling and designing this little ad for the Sligo SpR day
If you're coming, bring a bike. I've got some routes !
Email has been sent re links, directions and the programme we have in store !
@EMedSligo@IrishEMtrainees
@AndyNeill any spot/cancellations possibly available on the Mater Crit Echo course in November ? Had it in my sights to join, missed the op. post nights etc.
@Nat_O_Byrne Definitely agree with reading the DASHed study... 5 top non AAS ddx incl acute chole, PE and MI. Vvvv solid paper imo.
I've scanned a gastric volvulus recently that had HTN >200, a new MR and typical CP. So yep, the ddx can be unusual
I'm genuinely interested to know the changes incl agency nurse staffing who we in EM rely on to help staff our depts.
I'm an EM NCHD, have a family and will likely stay in Ireland as a future consultant. So give me and those NCHDs you call junior, the real horizon please.
I always do, especially with immobilised c-spines. First pass rates been 100% (it's small sample size tbf) but EM Airways are near always a difficult airway, and often unplanned.
Might be exam season (FRCEM SBA looking at you) but doing my duty for our home #rugby is a necessity ! Also, v nice 2 tries in the last 10 mins !
@connachtrugby
@srrezaie Have moved away from fentanyl to ketamine propofol for that reason. Managing one variable vital is easier than BP and HR together imo especially if you're considering additional drugs to manage drops in either.
I'd an icu consultant last yr reiterate: less drugs is more.
@srrezaie Can't under estimate the impact this had on an OOHCA I had a while ago. Helped bridge till central access was sorted.
It's definitely in my belt of must have resus drugs.
Wondering what the heritability of stubbornness is as my 2 yr old remains glued to sprinting away when I ask her to tidy up ?
Life questions alongside genetics on day where moving house is the theme #changeover#Sligo#Galway
@LisaSibthorpe1 I get the rationale for moving, and I read debates for both. Doesn't mitigate how much of a headache it is.
Rent prices are ridic, but no child policy feels discriminatory ! We were declined for one prpty due to Eala, and despite desperate moves of offering more, still a big no
We've contacted a minimum 40 properties in Galway, have had 8 responses (ie open view, no kids allowed or stairs not ideal) and 1 house that was definitely not RTB or basic living standards.
Handover's coming but Galway, you've given us too many sleepless nights #HousingCrisis
@pfridgway@dermothehir @DMHospitalGroup Prof was my surgical tutor when I was a med student in UL, a mentor as a doc and my landlord ish for 4 months. Genuinely loved knowing the man, he's a huge loss to Irish medicine.
His one phrase: you got to be rough if you want to be tough ! RIP Prof !
Still surprised we actually survived the journey never mind the queues, but we got to see @POTUS in #Ballina yesterday.
And Marine One did a flyover. Pretty cool post nights week tbh !
Phosphatidylcholine... long live my near decade old Trinity undergrad where cell membrane composition & synthesis was a first yr learning curve.
#TCD#Trinity#science#HumanHealthandDisease
Always chuffed to know our work gets to be benefit, and be heard ! Disappointed plans fell apart by illness, definitely needed to hear the sessions on today.
My little sickie and I will keep following (she knows I'm an adult-PEM futurist) #IPEM2023#TheCaseReport
Modern parenting as a dr:
Pushing buggy and near 2 yr old up a 5% grad hill, holding a coffee whilst entertaining road bike repairs and the SpR day.
Not sure I've it altogether but one handed buggy pushing up a hill is great bike training !
