Why is the liver able to regenerate itself?

Somehow the liver has the incredible capacity to both heal itself after toxic injury and regrow after resection. No other solid organ in the body can regenerate like this.

I grew up in the same Pune and yes, I too grew up surrounded mostly by brahmins, so it was easy to pretend that we are casteless. Near homogeneity makes it easy.

@DrAmitDangi It's an actively bleeding Bx-proven GIST. Very high likelihood of requiring Whipple's, esp if high mitotic rate. Only +ve thing is the size, may get away with a supra-ampullary or trans-ampullary resection. Make sure margins are -ve!!
