@levelsio Globalism will inevitably destroy that. What is needed is a special designated zone in each major city where local government and residents are financially and politically incentivised to preserve the culture, heritage, architecture, etc.
@Hollyjeeny@G_S_Bhogal You have framed the choice as a momentary self-indulgence, one that could swing either way. But blues see it as ideological consistency. Choosing red would undermine the identity they have built throughout their life.
@maylivesforever@BobMurphyEcon Itโs not a test of IQ. Itโs a test of values. Everyone knows the risk free answer is red. Blues want everyone to survive
@OffgridIreland@cmisbackagain So you want to increase taxes to cover the shortfall created by rejecting international students and the extortionate fees they pay for admission. Why does it even matter if they leave after graduation? If we need more doctors, why not just create more places?
A decade is too soon really. But a malevolent autonomous AI could operate covertly for a period of time, setting the scene, before triggering a serious of mass disasters in parallel. Imagine all the number of different ways harm can be inflicted on an unsuspecting human population, and then imagine they all occur simultaneously. Robotics going homicidal, food supplies destroyed, food production equipment destroyed, transportation destroyed, communications destroyed, plague unleashed, etc. etc.
@TheLege2@MichaelAArouet And? If the parents are neglecting the child even after receiving welfare, the children are going to be confiscated. Otherwise the money benefits the children directly and indirectly
What youโre referring to is image management. Politicians obsessed with this tend to care less about substance.
Never said I agreed with subverting the constitution, but he has the right instincts. Everything that can be done to increase housing availability should be done, within reason
You're too concerned with image. These examples of his use of language are inconsequential as far as I'm concerned, and shouldn't even factor into a performance evaluation.
So he is willing to go to extreme measures to solve a problem that has impacted the lives of our youth and the situation grows worse every day in large part because the government is paralysed by laws and regulations put in place by past governments and the EU, and young people have been leaving the country as a consequence. Desperate times...
@nevin_noelle@BTriagain Heโs subjected to racist attacks on a regular basis, donโt you notice the comments? If he genuinely thought all catholic white people were racist, he would have found a new home
@BTriagain Understandable. Though his struggles were uncommon on two counts at the time. Even now he's still attacked on an ongoing basis for his ancestry.
That aside, to qualify as a doctor and then reach the height of Irish politics implies an immense amount of effort
I agree that at least from the outside, the document leak seems entirely worthy of condemnation. That said, he is a trained doctor and it's plausible that there was value in sharing it at the time, to the point where breaking the rules may have been tempting. I can't really make an informed comment on it. The other examples are inconsequential really
In one decade:
A trend towards centralizing power and control of society in the hands of an elite class
After a few decades:
That we reach a tipping point where one or more fully autonomous intelligences accumulate enough resource control and speed of execution that we lose control over their operations, and they dictate our way of life as opposed to to the other way around
@tferriss What are the greatest obstacles for kids that want to follow in your footsteps, and how should we change the education system to accelerate their progress
@Ben_Scallan@JVanMaren Theyโre not equivalent. Only fans models wonโt contract or spread STIs via webcam, and thereโs little risk of violence if they never meet clients
