Idk how y’all feel about it but I got very little out of this Continental Cup.

IF Nigel/Mox was the destination the entire time, I think they should’ve used half of that tournament TV time to develop a Mox/Nigel personal issue, and try to get me invested in Nigel McGuinness really trying to go for it at this stage of his career.

31 years ago today, on 24th August 1995, one phone call sparked the biggest inter-promotional war in Japanese wrestling history.

NJPW's Riki Choshu, mid-press conference, shouted down the line to sales manager Fumihiko Uwai: "Alright, lock down (the Dome)!" The Tokyo Dome showdown between New Japan and UWF International was instantly set in motion.

The feud had been building for months. Kazuo Yamazaki's jump from UWFi to NJPW sparked a bitter contract dispute, while tensions already ran deep over UWFi's unannounced demand for a Takada vs Chono match, their controversial 100-million-yen tournament inviting rival promotion stars, and a legal battle over the poaching of Big Van Vader. Choshu had openly mocked UWFi's leadership as the "Three Idiots."

Both sides had financial motives too. UWFi's attendance had collapsed after Yoji Anjo's failed dojo-storming challenge against Rickson Gracie, while NJPW was reeling from heavy losses on their North Korean "Collision in Korea" shows. A blockbuster event suited everyone.

With both Takada and Choshu scheduled to hold dueling press conferences on the same day, reporter Soichi Shibata's interview with Takada the night before lit the fuse, quoting him as saying: "If it's wrestler-to-wrestler, we can speak with an open mind... the idea of me going to New Japan is definitely on my mind." Tokyo Sports ran with it on the front page the next morning.

Choshu, anxious for details, rang Shibata directly: "Shibata, what's going on over there?" That call led straight to a phone summit with Takada himself, ending in Choshu shouting "Alright, let's do it. I'm not letting you slip away!" before slamming the phone down and immediately calling Uwai to lock the venue - Uwai's own return call arriving moments too late.

Choshu then addressed the press with total conviction: "October 9 at the Tokyo Dome, an all-out interpromotional war. All singles matches... We will field everyone who wants to fight. Tell them to bring everyone they have, too. UWF will disappear at the Dome."

The result was a sellout 67,000 fans inside the Dome for "Clash," headlined by Keiji Muto defending the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against Nobuhiko Takada in what Muto later called the best match of his career. Choshu's own bout with Yoji Anjo birthed an unlikely pop-culture catchphrase, famously misquoted for decades afterwards as "I wasn't angry."

The war rumbled on through further shows in Osaka, Yoyogi and Fukuoka, NJPW finishing 11-13 overall - but nothing matched the lightning of that very first Tokyo Dome night, sparked entirely by one secretive man's spur-of-the-moment phone call.

مكنتش متخيل خالص اني لما أجرب اشوف ارشيف الاتحاد ده رأيي يتغير عن تينزان كده ،كان أفضل بكتير مما توقعت بذات كفردي
لكن المشكلة ان رأيك فيه كمصارع هيبقي مرتبط برأيك في الفترة الي فيه ذروته زي بقية جيله لكن كويس ان فيه نسبة مش بطالة من التايم الاجنبي بدأت تقدره نوعا ما
