@theveindoc@cathjw@MiloKostusiak What I really don't need in the NHS is the wastage of time doing what would have been secretarial tasks 20 years ago. Consultants now can be glued to highly inefficient poorly running computer systems tap tapping away. This just didn't happen in my private practice in Australia.
@theveindoc@MiloKostusiak I'm in Cornwall. We are exceptionally busy, particularly in the summer !!!! The only acute hospital in the county for a native population of around 600k that doubles in season.
@theveindoc@MiloKostusiak It's very different from the organisation of a trad job. There is a lot of operating on dedicated CEPOD lists, much more than in a 'traditional' Gen Surg job: there are urgent 'hot lists' and elective lists too.
@theveindoc@MiloKostusiak I'm an EGS surgeon - with a large elective & large surgical oncology practice over many years - however, I'm uneasy about 'supervising' and giving cases to non-medically trained staff if it's my name on the end of the bed. The NHS is brutal. Vicarious liability isn't for me.
@theveindoc@MiloKostusiak As an active musician, I've written the occasional banger - but the work involved in this or a 4 hour gig is nowhere near as taxing as a difficult 1-2 hr hot gallbladder ๐
@theveindoc@MiloKostusiak Yes I agree there and always felt that to be the case. Particularly where publications trump caseloads and logbooks. We've definitely overvalued peripheral non essential 'academic' skills over many decades. However - it's not just manual skill. It's who is ultimately in charge.
@theveindoc@MiloKostusiak You've just changed the argument ! The decision to operate is often the most challenging aspect of practice. But to regard the craft of surgery as 'easy', is an idea that just belongs to a bygone antediluvian era. Such arrogance has no place these days.
@russellquirk They're on ยฃ17-18 per hour. You're so ignorant !!! Well, when they're not there any longer, you'll be paying private market rates to American healthcare companies running the NHS, who will ruthlessly extract every last cent from the patients & workforce. Better start saving !
