@HC_Richardson We should draw lessons from history. The French nobility also thought they could let the rest of the country slowly disintegrate because they would be protected by their money. Ditto the Roman senatorial class. But their own actions brought about civil war & ruin for themselves.
@Liz_Cheney I can't believe how many Republicans are taunting you, Ms. Cheney, for taking an honorable stand, and how many are reveling in the lawlessness of Donald Trump and his political look-alikes. What has happened to my former party? And when will it stop?
@john_sipher @JohnCornyn@WSJopinion And low-level civil servants are held to a higher standard - for now. It's hard to enforce high standards when leadership at the highest levels refuse to uphold them. It's why excusing blatant misconduct & using propaganda to confuse the issue are dangerous.
@JohnCornyn@WSJopinion It is not a smear to reveal misconduct on the part of a government official. It seems that the Republican Party has made a decisive turn towards excusing and rationalizing unethical & illegal behavior. I can't say it's a good thing, for the party or for the country.
@BrianManookian@CSexton25@TheTNHoller@NC5PhilWilliams@TNLookout When a Fox news affiliate is giving positive coverage to the Democratic lawmaker unjustly ousted by the Republican-dominated TN legislature for exercising the right to protest, that can't be good for the GOP. What on earth are they thinking?
@joncoopertweets I will pray for him, and the country. I will pray the following prayer from Amos 5:24:
"But let justice run down like water,
And righteousness like a mighty stream."
@AdamKinzinger@SpeakerMcCarthy It used to not be normal, but here we are.
If you want a proper Republic, we the people need to expect our political leaders to behave properly, and enforce accountability when they don't. When propagandists confuse and short-circuit accountability, we get the chaos we have now
@RBReich I don't think this is a responsible statement from an economist. You know what the real value of money is, and that inflation reduces the real value which requires increases in prices in order for the real value to remain steady.
@RadioFreeTom That is because they don't really care about any given principle - they just say things that they think will inflict damage on the Democrats. Almost everything they do is in bad faith.
@GOP If you guys were saying this in order to extract reforms from the Biden administration towards greater honesty, I would respect it.
I don't see any specific requests for reform, and honestly, your own track record for truth-telling is weak. Please be serious, or just be quiet.
@TheRickWilson I knew that the Republican Party had become alarmingly tolerant of mendacity, but this guy lied about all of his qualifications/reasons people might vote for him & is wanted for fraud in Brazil. He should be extradited to stand trial. The GOP is becoming the party of criminality.
@jayrosen_nyu @ebizarch @NormOrnstein This is just one more outrageous liberal attempt to slander and silence true American conservatives...just kidding.
It was accurate in 2012 and is even more accurate 10 yrs. later. The refusal of Republicans to deal with their problem led directly to Jan. 6 & this week's debacle.
