Then she revealed something even darker.

she came back.

She returned to the confessional.

Sheen heard her confession.

And a soul that had seemed completely lost was reconciled to God.

Sheen understood something many of us forget:

No soul is beyond the reach of God’s mercy.

Sometimes the greatest thing you can do for a sinner is refuse to stop praying for them.

What a spectacular distillation of why we need to reject not only the idea that "everything/all art is political", but why we need to make that kind of attitude socially radioactive

Even if we were to stipulate on the former, that everything is political, even if we allow the distinction between "everything is" and "you can have a conversation about" to lapse, as I have explained before, even if we accept their premises

They get basic details wrong

"Chess is about killing kings"

When the one piece that you famously can't kill/take is the King

Even then, another synonym for taking a chess piece is "capture", so you could argue that nobody dies at all in Chess if you want to be pedantic

Even if we proceed under the idea that "everything is political", a phrase, as I have explained before, that specifically exists to violate your boundaries, to force you into political discourse when you're not in the mood or in contexts where it is inappropriate, even if we are to accept that, every single person who pushed/pushes that idea needs to be locked out of all discourse forever

There is value to be gleamed from political discourse and analysis of art, including Chess

However absolutely none of that value comes from the people pushing "Everything/all art is political"

And we know this is the case not just because of this example, no matter how perfect it is, but because of the motive behind the phrase itself, as explained above and in more detail elsewhere

The point is to force discourse

And the only people who feel the need to force discourse are people with agendas

People who want to conduct good faith analysis and discussion feel no need to force others to participate

People who want to conduct good faith analysis and discussion feel no need to mangle definitions to magically turn every situation into an arena for (always painfully "current") political discourse

People who want to conduct good faith analysis and discussion are able to respect boundaries

A Massachusetts family says the state took custody of their teenage daughter after they refused to affirm her as a boy, citing their Catholic faith.

The parents allege a school counselor socially transitioned their daughter without their knowledge, then reported them to the Department of Children and Families.

Now the state has guardianship, and a restraining order prevents the teen's parents and older brother from contacting her.

Y, paradójicamente, aplicando una lógica muy parecida a la que usaron las propias autoridades británicas e isleñas cuando sintieron amenazado su control sobre las islas.

El caso de Eduardo Elsztain es bastante ilustrativo.

Desde mediados de los 2000 comenzó a comprar acciones de FIH Group, controlante de Falkland Islands Company. Llegó a superar el 4% y en 2017 intentó avanzar sobre el control de la compañía.

Las autoridades isleñas no lo trataron como una simple inversión financiera. Advirtieron que un cambio de control podía hacer que FIC perdiera privilegios para adquirir tierras. Entendieron perfectamente que capital argentino podía convertirse en influencia política.

Cómo terminó? Dolphin retiró la oferta y Elsztain afirma hoy que todavía conserva cerca del 2%.
Ese antecedente explica bastante bien el giro actual.

Durante el fin de semana, SLB, Baker Hughes y Halliburton ya dijeron que no participan ni planean participar en proyectos hidrocarburíferos en Malvinas.

La lógica es simple: si operar en las islas puede poner en riesgo negocios mucho mayores en Argentina, cada compañía tiene que elegir dónde está su verdadero interés.

Porque la soberanía no se disputa solamente pintando bancos de rojo, montando monolitos y haciendo declaraciones en tono enojado.

La soberanía también se disputa en la capacidad de decidir quién financia, asegura, y, en definitiva, hace económicamente viable un territorio.
