@nicolainnes Staggering blog by @nicolainnes about increased hospital admissions for kids with tooth decay in UK--top cause for 5-9 yo!--while here in US some places are trying to take fluoride out of water, despite it being safe, effective, cost-effective, & an equitable tool for protection

These results are particularly unfortunate, given that those who are most at risk (of having health problems with dental & then systemic disease) also are least likely to know: Black or Hispanic Americans, those with lower income or less education
The FDA’s plan on fluoride supplements is bad science https://t.co/kUMmsTD0T3 via @statnews
It's also important to remember that removing a safe, cost-effective and equitable intervention without an alternative in place is just another assault on health.
Also, stopping an intervention, like fluoride, is not risk-free--people will suffer if they lose one of the most cost-effective, equitable, and low-risk interventions to help health.
Six former surgeons general have spoken out against @SecKennedy: “Never before have we issued a joint public warning like this. But the profound, immediate and unprecedented threat that Kennedy’s policies and positions pose to the nation’s health cannot be ignored.” https://t.co/CTTuQkPjCN
The world is upside down. How is fluoride being banned and asbestos returning??.
Trump could allow cancer-causing asbestos to return https://t.co/rTSm2wnCY0

Well, well, well - some good #PublicHealth news to celebrate 💦 🦷
Nottingham council to add fluoride to tap water to tackle rising tooth decay in children and growing inequalities
#Dentistry#fluoridation
If only they looked at other places that removed fluoride and see what happened...
Oh right. They did. It DID cause harm. And they put it back. Look at Calgary, Juno, Alass (Saudi Arabia). And it DOES disportionately affect the poor, causing an increase in Medicaid costs
A JAMA Health Forum microsimulation estimated that removing fluoride from U.S. water would cause a 7.5% rise in decayed teeth. That would add $9.8 billion in treatment costs over 5 years, about 25 million extra decayed teeth.
RFK Jr. admitted today that tooth decay will “probably” rise without water fluoridation.
And he said the evidence about fluoride’s safety is “very clear.” He’s referring to a cluster of 74 studies — and 70% of them have a high risk of bias. RFK Jr. has no respect for #science.
YOU CAN’T MAKE THIS UP: RFK Jr. really said the quiet part out loud; he’d rather let poor kids get cavities than fund basic public health.
“It’s a balance,” he says, between science and pseudoscience. Between dental care and conspiracies.
Fluoride isn’t some fringe experiment. It’s one of the most proven public health tools in modern history.
And this clown just shrugged off kids losing their teeth as a fair trade for his anti-government fantasies.
6/ The best way to protect infants under 6m of age? Vaccinate their moms.
The best way to protect infants 6m to 2y of age? Vaccinate them.

5/ And what are doctors supposed to do if they aren't being given clear guidance?
After the elderly, infants under age 2 are at highest risk for ending up in the ER or hospital from COVID.
5/ 🚫 The claim is a classic example of misinformation.
Owning patents ≠ selling vaccines for profit.
Funding vaccination ≠ operating like a pharma company.
