We need to listen to doctors whose training has been detrimentally impacted by their trusts employing PAs.
But it’d be cowardly of me not to speak up and say that the PAs I’ve worked with Acute Medicine do not deserve the target we’ve painted on their backs.
Emotional day @LeedsHospitals and @LTHT_SIM as the inspirational, brilliant, fun, dynamic, role model @EileenBurns13 retires after a 42yrs career dedicated to improving older people's care. You will be missed
Dr Emma Runswick(British Medical Association) - "It would cost around £1b to increase junior doctors pay... the govt have written off 15x that on unusable, fraudulent PPE... Steve Barclay needs to stop the silly preconditions if he wants talks to take place"

It'll be a little surreal today working without junior colleagues; and it's important to understand why - particularly with the Government and some news agencies almost deliberately confusing things.
As usual, the @FT seems to have the charts and analysis:
Here’s my payslip as a first year doctor in 2005, next to a first year doctor colleague’s in 2023. 18 years later, their take home salary is less than mine was. I lived for free in hospital accommodation and had a fraction of their student loan.

@hughes_eilir@apsmunro@LawtonTri @microlabdoc Yeah I routinely wear one of these on the covid ward I work on (as the FFP3 masks don’t fit my petite face) and today it was like having a personal cooling device for 5 hours!
@Andr6wMale I don’t know you but felt very saddened and angry reading this. Colette looks so full of energy, fun and joy in these photos. I’m sorry for your loss and these circumstances.
We have today written to @10DowningStreet regarding @BorisJohnson response to the news of the events of 20 May 2020.
A full copy of our letter is below.
I’m a consultant geriatrician who’s seen too many people die from COVID-19. I’m in my 30s and already had antibodies from infection but got fully vaxxed to protect my patients, loved ones and myself. I also wear a seatbelt and avoid going through red lights.

@DrSdeG@ShaunLintern Like other bad plans, I understood this at the beginning of the pandemic. But not allowing a triple vaccinated, asymptomatic, lateral flow negative visitor wearing the same PPE as I do, to visit their relative with dementia or delirium, seems excessively cruel now
@sean9n Harm to the environment and minimal benefit when dealing with an airborne virus. If we were genuinely concerned about fomites, gowns would be a better shout as they cover more of the body. Plastic pinnies just seem theatrical and wasteful.
