@dr_Reno19@dfocalgary@RenfrewChrysler I’d argue he never really moved the needle for the Flames very much, that happened way more once he went to Florida, that’s why I never included him in my 3.
@Robert_Munnich I dunno, if history is any indication, Hunt is going to be called up, either with Suniev or instead of Suniev. He’s a Huska kind of player.
@dfocalgary@capitalchev Comes down to
A) is he going to be a key part of this team when they eventually turn the corner? (I suspect not)
B) would he accept an extension that lines up with that, meaning 3-4 years of his prime to be a top center on a bad team (I suspect not)
Answer seems obvious to me
@FierySharky A lot of people hate on him, but people forget that for about a half decade or so, inbetween the teardown of the cup winning team and the ascension of Iggy, Fleury was pretty much all we had. He basically single-handedly kept the lights on for a while til things got better
@Robert_Munnich Agreed completely. Assuming the organization views Othmann, Suniev, Carels, Reschny, potter, Wytt, and Bru as part of the solution moving forward, there has to be a path for them to play either next year or the year after
@MatchsticksCGY Agreed. Bru has the potential to be more than a bottom-pairing D in the NHL but it’s hard to see a path for him to be any more than that in Calgary anymore. Although solely based on age and contention window, hard to see Whitecloud being here when the tide turns either
@dfocalgary Parehk 20 goal/60 point season en route to a bottom 3 finish, 2nd overall pick, and finally selecting the future no. 1 center to round out the prospect pool
@miketgould I’m higher than most on his chances of eventually making the Flames one day. Not only does he bring a physical edge that most of the prospect base doesn’t (save for Othmann and Harrington), kids got real skill to back it up. Could be useful on the bottom pairing one day
@sane_opinion@miketgould One more good draft this year, and in the next 3 years, not only will they have turned the NHL roster over to youth compared to now (keeping Gridin, Honzek, Coronato, Parehk, Nemec, and Wolf) but likely turned over the Wranglers again as well. And Wolf would be the oldest!
@sane_opinion@miketgould This is very true. Can’t expect them all to hit their potential, but if most do then they have the makings of a very good team in a few years. Add a proper no. 1 center (hopefully this year) and maybe another top winger and this team could be dangerous.
@miketgould I think Gridin, Honzek, Reschny, Carels, and Parehk. Maybe Suniev. Think Brz should but not sure they will make room for him. Wytt probably does a year or two in the A. Also, Potter and Stockselius likely in the A. Now, who else is pushing by 28-29?
@fansherfitness@miketgould@wyshynski That would absolutely still be the idea, you’re right. I’m just saying, moving a decent/inconsistent 27yo C who can help SEA now, for a 22yo high risk/high reward reclamation project C (plus pick) should be considered. If he figures it out, great for us. If not, better lotto odds
@miketgould@wyshynski Adding Wright, if he can figure things out with more opportunity, gives post-Backs CGY a centre depth of him, Reschny, and then whoever of Potter/Hextall/Stock/Castagna/anyone else who can play. That’s a scary looking group to add to a killer D core and good G depth.
@miketgould@wyshynski If I’m GMCC I’d think long and hard about Frost for Wright plus a 2nd.
I like Frost but he’s likely a proper 2C at best, not the 1C he is here, and a bit too old for when CGY hits their stride, but still on the right side of 30 for a team trying to make playoffs consistently.
