Agreed places such as “Freedmen’s Town,” in Houston, TX are being erased bit by bit. The National Trust for Historic Preservation has yet to fully recognize or grant support to one of the last remaining areas where formerly enslaved peoples made their home.
It’s Preservation Month. As I drive around surveying historic neighborhoods I see homes like this that clearly have a story. How can we inspire preservation in older Black communities where structural racism has existed for years? Just need a little hope if you can help me out.
