The Dragon Flower Mantis!! 🐉🌸
One of the most BEAUTIFUL insects in the entire world, this master of camouflage has taken evolution to a new level! 🤯
This mantis, Toxodera integrifolia, blends perfectly into the dense rainforest foliage by looking and moving exactly like a tropical flower! 🌷
It does this to avoid predation and to also assist it in catching unsuspecting prey! 🦋
There are eight species of this incredible genus found in the extremely biodiverse rainforests of south-east Asia! 🌳
To say I LOST MY MIND when I saw this mantis in Malaysia was an understatement!! 🤯
A newly hatched greenhouse frog!! Welcome to the world little buddy.
Contrary to the very name amphibian itself, Eleutherodactylid frogs (like E. planirostris) undergo direct development, coming out of the egg as a fully formed (though truly miniscule!) frog
Our Amur leopard, Mina, is showing off her grooming game for #TongueOutTuesday. Leopards have sharp, pointed hooks on their tongues called papillae, which are used to scrape meat off the bones of their prey; they're also a helpful tool for grooming!

Our Chilean flamingo ‘Salvador’ is turning 31! 🦩
Did you know that flamingos are #EcosystemEngineers? When they move around their habitat, they help to circulate the waters by turning over mud and silt in their search for food. 🦐

Baby Alligator Gar are about an inch long, feeding on zooplankton and fry pellets!
Check out those little fins and the short snout! Their snouts will get longer and more gar-like as they grow (they already have small teeth!)

Numbats can eat up to 20,000 termites a day!
Here at the Zoo, we provide a tasty termite custard with added nutrients at mealtimes - it's delicious and keeps them in tip-top shape 🐾
Smiley is out! Now it feels like summer can start.
Our North American alligator, Smiley lets us know when he’s ready to move outside by lining up by his indoor pool door.
Wondering what the door is for? It’s how we weigh Smiley in the spring and fall!

The Saint Louis Zoo WildCare Institute Center for Conservation in Western Asia has become a leader in captive work with mountain vipers. We conducted research over the past decade on the species. It also opened a facility in Armenia to breed vipers and release them into the wild.
Grabbing a quick bite to eat with Elvis.
Black-handed spider monkeys like him lack opposable thumbs, but are very adept at using their four fingers to grasp, swing, and throw!
