Whitby’s parks are beautiful & well designed, & Ops takes great pride in maintaining them. Today I joined Kelly, John, & Kevin from Ops Parks Maintenance Group. Watched an 8 foot long garbage bag removed from a tiny receptacle, and visited a cool splash pad. ⁦@TownofWhitby⁩

Try crouching over all day in the rain, weeding flower beds. This is what Zaki, Wes, and Erica do as part of their role planting and tending to hundreds of Whitby’s beautiful gardens. I can tell you from my morning with them, it is tougher than you might think. Thanks gang.

What a great day I had joining Ops, Grounds Maintenance Section. Thanks to Matt, David, Colin, and Gemma for showing me the ropes. Do you know we maintain 125 Parks, totalling over 1000 acres? Cuts are never longer apart than 16 days. ⁦@TownofWhitby⁩

I continued my ride-alongs with OPs, Waste Section today. Wow, this is not an easy job. Brandon and his group each do approx 750 stops per day. I did about 250 and my back will be feeling it tomorrow. A big thank you to our very hard working waste group!!!⁦@TownofWhitby⁩

I spent yesterday afternoon with Mike, Andrew, Jean, and Barry from the Town’s Fleet group. Replaced brakes on a waste truck, a valve coil on a pickup, sharpened a lawnmower blade, and ordered parts. They truly do keep out Town moving. Thanks folk!!! ⁦@TownofWhitby⁩

So a warning to everyone based on experience. DO NOT go on storm water ponds. They are not safe. My pup broke through the ice on pond at Memorial Park. I went on ice to get her knowing I would break through. I did. Lucky To be tall enough to stand and break the ice. #dumbmove
