last year, as Israel's ongoing Gaza genocide was ramping up, Palestinian-Dutch poet Ramsey Nasr was allowed to go on television there to say something about it. Here was his message, which has only become more devastating today:
"I saw a man walking around with a plastic bag. He held it out before him above the crowd as if it contained a precious bread. It wasn't bread. The transparent bag contained the remains of his children's flesh and bones.
I sat down and howled like an animal.
There's something wrong with humanity, our own and that of everyone that watches and does not intervene.
I'm left with one wish, because dreams do not exist in this hell: That someone will record the names of the hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees, dead and wounded, and then interview their relatives on national television, night after night.
This amounts to countless TV broadcasts. It would be absurd.
But fair."
I know there is disagreement with VP Harris’s positions on some issues. But I find it fascinating that there are some saying that they will “protest” her by not voting in this election. As if she will somehow be hurt by that decision. Well, let me tell those folks something.
FUN FACT: Each of us who support Kamala are de facto surrogates for her campaign. So we have to have the talking points at the ready to answer questions or criticism about her or her campaign. So here are a few at the ready:
1) She didn’t pass any great things as VP:
Time does not heal all wounds. That’s why many people in their 80s are miserable, regretful, and bitter. Having someone listen with empathy heals wounds. Taking steps outside your comfort zone heals wounds. Letting yourself cry heals wounds. Physical touch from someone you trust heals wounds.
Here’s an interesting #BHM challenge:
You get to choose any three people, living or dead, to answer 1 question:
Who is responsible for saving the most lives in all of human history?
I’d argue than no one can beat my team.
A thread.
Let me add: My issue isn’t with Travis Kelce because he didn’t write this story nor has he ever claimed to invent this particular haircut. My issue is with the NYT for giving zero cultural context and failing to explain that fades have been popular for a very long time and it has a significant connection to Black culture.
@Burrows_steals@NHLFlames Lindholm is a solid 2C. He’s been underwhelming since Johnny and Matt left but he’ll do lots of little things well, good on draws, decent release, good PK. Can be a 30-goal guy with good line mates but he and Huberdeau were just on the wrong page and had zero chemistry together.
When a racist mob attacks a Black person, it finds a seemingly legitimate reason for the attack that allows for it to accrue popular support and credibility, and which allows the growing mob to deny they are attacking the person in this way because the person is Black. 1/4
