Oscar Pistorius walking on his stumps without his prosthetic legs in a Pretoria courtroom on June 15, 2016, during his murder re-sentencing hearing for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp....
Pistorius was born without fibulas, and both of his legs were amputated below the knee before he was a year old. Running on carbon-fiber blades, he became one of the most famous athletes in the world, nicknamed the “Blade Runner.”
In 2012, he made history as the first double amputee to run in the Olympics, reaching the 400-meter semifinal in London.
Less than a year later, on February 14, 2013, he shot and killed his girlfriend, model and law graduate Reeva Steenkamp, through a locked bathroom door at his home in Pretoria. He claimed he thought she was an intruder.
He was first convicted of culpable homicide, but an appeals court later changed the conviction to murder.
At his 2016 sentencing hearing, his lawyer asked him to remove his prosthetics and walk across the courtroom, to show the judge how vulnerable he was without them. He was sentenced to six years. In 2017, an appeals court more than doubled it to 13 years and 5 months.
He was released on parole in January 2024.
South Africa has no jury trials. They were abolished in 1969, so the case was decided entirely by Judge Thokozile Masipa.

@aliturvey People clamouring for Howe back as well, we were just as bad last season. Got to get the balance right quickly in the side but got to give him time as well.
@SDR1502 I would start Osula next game as well but I don't think he's the answer long term either. We've spent some coin on forwards who don't score many goals like 😂
@SDR1502 Got to sort the balance out 100% agree. We don't have a natural 10 so for now we need to play to strengths. Burn needs to come back in, we are lacking a leader on the field. Take our chances tonight and it's different but you get punished at this level and it wasn't good enough.
