Hey everyone! With Dawntrail release nearly upon us, I thought this is as good a time as any to announce that I'll be retiring this account for good and leaving FFXIV twitter (🧵)

I've had my share of good times here with fantastic people (that's you!)...

Last words: thank you for the good times these past few years! I've met some good people here, whom I will miss dearly. Even though our time together was short, I will remember our interactions fondly and wish y'all the best.

I'll mostly be posting my FFXIV things on tumblr (https://t.co/HPKGd1ZSsr) from now on, and I'm still on my main account on Twitter — it's just less FFXIV-centric and more anti-gen AI stuff. Also cats. For mutuals, feel free to DM me for my Discord if you'd like to connect there!

With Dawntrail releasing soon, I'd like to fall back into my own pace in enjoying things, without worrying if I'm playing the right way or doing the right things or having the right opinions. I don't want discourse to mar my experience of the game, as it did Endwalker.

And while there's an undeniable sense of community in finding people who enjoy the same things I do (hello, fellow Gaius likers), I find that on a larger, non-personal scale fandom fosters a sense of FOMO and tribalism and elitism that I do not particularly enjoy.

...but spending time away from this account has led me to realise that the constant discourse and critique and discontent was outweighing the good times I was having, and I was frankly a lot happier when I wasn't seeing Bad Takes 101 for the nth time every time I logged on here.

Fun fact: When Zionists started reviving Hebrew as a PR stunt, they found the language had no word for "nation" or "state".
