@MonkipiQuinn That frustration led to a design philosophy that values the emergent over the prescriptive, & the term that got associated with prescription was "story".
Interestingly! I think that what we used to describe as "story" was replaced with "plot", as in: "We derailed the DMs plot."
@MonkipiQuinn WoD was a prime example of this, with a series of fictional constructs, some of which were literal prewritten stories, that promised a game experience that was incompatible with the game's mechanics.
