@archeohistories I flew it in 1983 and they let us come up to the cockpit one at a time in flight. All I actually remember was that the pilot was British. The flight is totally smooth even when going thru the sound “barrier.”

@archeohistories These really only look crazy at first... Once you realize that the flight engineer station (the huge panel on the side) is controls and HMIs broken up for 4 engines., one you learn one of those engines... You sorta know them all.

From there it's just understanding proceedure.

When the Aérospatiale-BAC Concorde entered service in 1976, it represented the cutting edge of aerospace engineering. Designed to cruise at Mach 2.04 (about 1,354 mph or 2,179 km/h), Concorde routinely flew passengers across the Atlantic in under 3½ hours, less than half the time required by conventional airliners.

Much of the cockpit's complexity stemmed from the aircraft's unique systems. At supersonic speeds, Concorde's aluminum airframe expanded by as much as 10 inches (25 cm) due to aerodynamic heating. Pilots managed an intricate fuel-transfer system that moved fuel between tanks to maintain the aircraft's center of gravity as it accelerated, cruised, and slowed. The aircraft also featured a droop-nose mechanism for visibility during takeoff and landing, an afterburner-equipped engine system, and extensive monitoring equipment for high-speed flight.

Despite the intimidating number of controls, Concorde crews underwent rigorous training and followed highly structured procedures. The aircraft achieved an excellent safety record for most of its service life, completing more than 50,000 flights before its retirement in 2003.

Concorde still holds the record for the fastest transatlantic passenger flight. On February 7, 1996, a British Airways Concorde flew from New York to London in just 2 hours, 52 minutes, and 59 seconds, aided by favorable jet stream winds.
