Interesting response to the unveiling of the AI Task Force. Here is some clarification and context.

1. The photo - Not all the pple in the photo are members of the task force. some of them including the @UCC_ED are members of the @UCC_Official Board & Top Mgt.

2. The Task force. The 15-person task force has UCC technical staff whose job profiles, technical expertise, training experience & educational background empower them to contribute to the task at hand. The team is led by @mbamwesigye with top mgt oversight by @CMugimba the Director of Reseach and ICT.
The Task force also has 5 senior members of academia to bring valuable research experience, to the team. These members are already mentoring many young innovators and researchers in different aspects of AI design and integration.

3. The context - AI issues extend beyond usage & require a multi-faceted approach that combines both technical expertise and policy experience. In alignment with one of the mandates outlined in the @UCC_Official Act 2013, the task force will among other things create a concept note / roadmap of Government Policy Advisory on broader aspects of AI, including legal & regulatory, ethics & transparency in design and integration of AI, societal impacts, consumer & data protection, Security, the safe & ethical integration of AI in both the public and private sectors not forgetting the infrastructure and connectivity requirements. This list is not exhaustive.

Is the taskforce conclusive, NO, but sometimes you need to start from somewhere and improve along the way.
The draft concept will be put out for broader stakeholder consultation and input. This will also include a framework of engagement of other stakeholders including young innovators, different industries and sectors.

4. The Foundation ~The Task force is not starting from scratch, it is leveraging the existing and ongoing international and regional AI governance frameworks (WHICH ARE STILL WORK IN PROGRESS,) and Uganda's National 4IR strategy.

5. Honoring Senior members - Whereas young pple have a well justified demand to have a seat at the table, they also need to be conscious that they VERY MUCH NEED the expertise, experience, historical context, knowledge, mentoring and guidance of seniors to leverage their knowledge and experience to leapfrog and avoid making or repeating mistakes.
