This is all you need to know about the whole battle between Labadi Beach Hotel and Polo Beach Club and something doesn’t add up.

In June 2024 Labadi Beach Hotel sues Polo Beach Club for using the former’s beachfront for events and car park. A claim Polo Beach Club strongly denied. Polo maintained that they owned the beachfront because it was leased to them by the La Stool in June 2022 for GH₵1.5 million.

On December 19th 2024, the High Court issued an injunction against Polo Beach Club restraining it from trespassing or using the disputed area until the main case is decided.

Labadi Beach Hotel claimed that Polo Beach Club ignored the court injunction and went back to operating the beachfront. Therefore, on 13th January 2025, the Labadi Beach Hotel filed a contempt application against Polo for defying the court’s December injunction.

Three weeks later, on 6th February 2025, Labadi Beach Hotel voluntarily withdrew its main application for a long-term injunction so Polo legally continued to run the beachfront while the main litigation was ongoing.

Not much was heard of the case since Feb 2025 until a few days ago, 16th September 2026, when Labadi Beach Hotel filed to wholly discontinue its main lawsuit against Polo Beach Club. Their stated reason for discontinuing the case was that “dropping the lawsuit was purely a commercial decision based on re-evaluating litigation costs and operational impacts.”

Just hours after the Labadi Beach Hotel dropped its case on September 16, 2026, Polo Beach Club filed a fresh, aggressive lawsuit against on that same day. This is because Polo Beach Club viewed the hotel's sudden withdrawal not as a peaceful retreat, but as a tactical maneuver to bypass the court system. Polo reasoned that Labadi Beach Hotel wanted to exploit state security forces to demolish the place and withdrawing the case meant they wouldn’t be in contempt for the illegal demolition.

The club also sued Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations at the National Security Council Secretariat in its fresh lawsuit. Polo Beach Club accused Jakpa of abusing his state office and "hiding behind the National Secretary" to execute extrajudicial, unlawful actions on behalf of the hotel.

In its suit on 16th September 2026, Polo Beach Club also sought a court declaration that they are the lawful occupants of the beachfront.

Accompanying Polo Beach Club’s fresh lawsuit filed a few days ago was an application for an interlocutory injunction to prevent the hotel from executing physical threats of demolition against the property.

Despite the fresh court filings, yesterday, the military and National Security joint enforcement team moved in and completely demolished the Polo Beach Club structures at the La Beach Resort.

What is very weird about yesterday’s demolition is the fact that the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces and the National Security being fully aware of the fresh lawsuit Polo Beach Club filed about 2-weeks ago against Labadi Beach Hotel which is pending at the High Court, nut they still sanctioned the unlawful demolition of the Polo Beach Club.

And the government’s reason for the unlawful demolition, according to Stan Dogbe - Deputy Chief of Staff, is that Management of the Labadi Beach Hotel had raised concerns that the structures were affecting the safety and tranquillity of the facility, as well as the visitor experience and orderly management of the Labadi Beach Hotel.
