Great to get the hard copy @ClarusPress of my new book with Gerry Whyte.
We argue the Irish constitution, properly construed against its natural law/catholic social teaching philosophical/ historical backdrop, provides protection against extreme poverty and deprivation.
We also evaluate the modestly valuable role public interest litigation has had in protecting vulnerable citizens like those with special educational needs, at risk children, and the homeless. ⬇️
Hickey, "How to Interpret the Irish Constitution" (Irish Sup Ct Review, 2023) is now on SSRN.
It gets a "recommended" from @lsolum, who says: "Fascinating discussion, with echoes of American debates over originalism and living constitutionalism."

Thrilled to see the latest edition of the DULJ arrive on my desk this morning.
What an opportunity it was to comment alongside @LaurCah on the work of @Caseyco231 and Oran Doyle.
A pre-publication draft of my Afterword with @LaurCah is available at: https://t.co/tEn0190lY9
Career highlight to have our DULJ Foreword on the last decade of Supreme Court jurisprudence commented upon by so many fine Irish scholars @MariaCahil @LaurCah@saoirseenright@rachaelawalsh@dkennytcd
Foreword draft here: https://t.co/fqMbSD6kdo
A career highlight for me was having @MariaCahil @LaurCah@saoirseenright@dkennytcd comment on the DULJ Foreword Oran Doyle and I wrote about the last ten years of the Irish Supreme Court’s work.
Our rejoinder to their great commentary is here: https://t.co/NBipitVCty
In this edition of DULJ, @jamie_mc95 and I argue that political presidential speech *is* constitutional. Essentially we argue that 1) the President's separation from executive branch and 2) their direct election undermines the supposed need for the office to be 'above politics'.
The latest edition of the Dublin University Law Journal, Volume 44(2) has just published! Full details on this issue can be found here:

New article in the DULJ 🤓 It covers guardianship for unmarried fathers, reciprocal IVF & citizenship and how all of these important legal issues have been scuppered not by an intention to exclude (🤞🏻) but by drafting issues. I find it so interesting but like, I wrote it #biased
Check out these great articles by @hogan_hilary @saoirseenright, Róisín Costello, Daniel Gilligan @TCDLawSchool & James Rooney on McGee @dulawjournal following the @TriCONDublin conference on ‘Contraception and the Constitution’ in Dec 2023.
First part of new @dulawjournal has responses to the previous issue’s Foreword written by @oran_doyle and myself about the last 10 years of Supreme Court jurisprudence.
Honoured to have our piece commented on by @saoirseenright@LaurCah@rachaelawalsh@dkennytcd @MariaCahil
🚨 The @dulawjournal is currently accepting submissions for publication in 2025!
📅 Deadline: 31 January 2025
